In about a week I am going to get the Viper 690XV. I was going to get the 791XV so i can get the auto start, but i have a manual and dont want to mess with that--also its illegal. These systems seem really good. THey also have a LCD remote which tells you if anything is happening to your car up to a 1/4 mile away.

darn. You just reminded me that I have lojack on mine (and a stock alarm). I'd forgotten all about that in the 7+ years. Funny. (Sorta). In truth I've had one car stolen -- it is annoying. But now days, I figure the stock alarms are good enough for me.

I am pretty sure you can still purchase the stock alarm as a dealer accessory and not have to worry about some hack sticking a test light on to an airbag circiuit by accident.
I installed alarms/stereos during college and for a year or two after from 1994-~2000. Even with the cool add ons of the aftermarket, I would stay with the factory unit - it provides all the features of a high end alarm (motion sensor, remote window control, etc ) and no hassle with warranty, no cutting up your harness, and so on.
But if they still made the Code Alarm Competition or Alpine SEA-8081 - it would be a different story...
The one thing I learned after installing lojacks, 1000's of alarms, steering wheel collars/clubs, etc - is that if someone really wants to take your car or steal something from it, they will. And 99.99% of the time there is nothing you can do to stop them.
