I thought I'd share this with you lot:

I just came back from my 4 week holiday. I did some driving through Europe, from Holland to Romania and back. 3000 miles in total, 2000 highway, 1000 city/local roads.
The average mpg ended up around 20, and that's with AC on all the time. I'd say it's not too bad at all. I used different types of gas, from 95 to 100 octane, and the difference in mileage and performance was unnoticeable (although at 8 $/gallon, the 100 octane is way too expensive to ever try it again...).
Having no hood pins installed, I was worried abouth the hood shake even before I set off, and I did notice it around 100-110 mph. However, above 110 mph the hood stopped moving and I took the car up to 130 mph.
All along the way I've received countless looks, compliments, honks and thumbs-up. The most appreciated were from a guy in a '73 Mustang convertible and another one in a '66 Fastback, both in Germany. The long looks from guys in 645 BMWs and SL500s were priceless too. In a parking a guy came up who just wanted to take a look at the car and the engine. After I gladly showed him around, he told me he was a Ford dealer and he hadn't seen a '05 in person yet (long story, Ford Europe doesn't oficially import them...). Another one couldn't believe it was an '05, he was sure it was a modded 60s fastback (a bit ignorant, but well-intended and friendly).
The fuel tank fill-up problem seems to go away on its own, or I'm just lucky enough to find the pump that work just fine On a single occasion the pump shut off halfway through, and I had to pump in the rest very slowly.
The handling of the car was again impressive and the ride was smooth enough even on bad roads. What took me by surprise however was the easiness with which the rear end was sliding when leaving from a traffic light and turning left or right on wet asphalt, at very low speeds. I'm guessing the burnouts took their toll on the rear tires

In conclusion, I love this car more and more each day and I'm prouder and happier over my choice with each minute I spend driving it!

P.S.: holiday season is over, it's time to start modding again!

Boy am I jealous. I would give my eye teeth to make a trip like that. I was fortunate enough to drive from paris to Normandie last year and it was amazing [however I was in a Focus diesel not a performance car]. Sounds like a wonderful trip.
