Aux Radio Option
#4
It's actually a good question, that hasn't been answered yet, afaik!
My GUESS is that the jacks are at the back of the unit, and it shouldn't just be for a DVD. There are lots of uses for an auxillary input, like for an iPod for example.

Satellite anyone? I know that Ford is starting to put Sirius in several car lines this year. Maybe the Mustang will get it in '06? Then, all they have to change is the button from AUX to SAT.

I use a Sony mini disk and would like a jack to plug it in direct. To this point I've used a cassette tape converter which is a noisey option. Any info from a current owner would be helpful.

Several people have changed in favor of aftermarket, was hoping that they had a chance to inspect. If my car ever gets here I will post some photos if I can find out what type of connections and where they are at. Hoping they are RCA in the back of the head unit myself.

I'm pretty sure they're phono plugs (the standard stuff...you know...red...white), but I don't have my unit right now (my friend was fit-checking it in his F250...alas...didn't fit), but as soon as I can get a pic and an answer I'll let you know.

Currently ala Tech. Rep AUX is for rear seat DVD but Blitzsafe is going to make a convertor "box" for Sirius and XM radios. There are NO RCA or any other connectors on the back of the unit.

Ok, with that information in hand, what are some good alternatives to the Shaker head units? I noticed the dash has plenty of room for third party hardware.

I want Sirius so bad and am quite pissed that the 06 will have it. I want it right now but don't want to ruin the look of the stock radio. Will I be able to switch the units out when the 06s arrive?

You can add a Sirius PNP (or even XM if that is your brand) by using a connector between the antenna and the radio. When you turn on the Sirius unit, it will bypass all FM signals from the antenna and only send the "FM" signal from the Sirius unit directly into the radio. Admittedly, not as great as a direct RCA connection, but it is MUCH better than the hardly bearable FM modulation option straight from the unit. I have this setup in two of my cars and it works great!
The part number for the Sirius Audiovox PNP is SIRSWB (made by Audiovox). Only about $15 online:
http://www.x10.com/electronics/allcategori...vox_SIRSWB.html
Then, all you have to do is connect the switchbox wire directly to the PNP unit, connect power and the antenna and you are all set.
But, I agree, it will be nice when/if it becomes FACTORY available at a REASONABLE price (not the $699 that Mercedes Benz is quoting)!
