I have a question for all out there with autos in their cars. Now what I am going to describe does not affect the cars performance in any way. When I am driving the car it sounds like a whine coming from the trans, or appears to be coming from the trans. It is not coming from the rear end. I swear it sounds like a jet turbine or blower, but at a very very low volume. It actually sounds cool, but just want to know if this is a normal sound for this trans.

Mine does the same.....sounds like it's coming from the engine and not the rear end although I never noticed it until I switched to the 4.10....I hear it when I let off the gas and not when I'm on it.....hope that helps..
wish it WAS a blower I was hearing....sometimes I try to fool myself into thiinking that's what it is....HAHA

Thanks, fellas It really didn't bother me, but it is always good to ask the masses. It does sound cool. John you are right it is only on decel. that you hear it, I assume during accel the engine & exhaust note drown it out.
John your car sounded awsome on that dyno clip.
Merry Christmas guys.....

Haha, I have been describing the sound as a jet airliner also. It sounds pretty cool, I kinda don't want it to go away once it's broken in but I'm pretty sure it's due to being new and the gears meshing are still real tight.
It is most noticable when coasting to a stop.
Since we are on the topic of the auto, I'm not used to them. It seems like I get a pause between pushing the accelerator and the car responding. Been trying to baby it on take offs but getting annoyed with the lag. If I press it further down this doesn't seem to happen, only when I very lightly push the throttle down to go. Is that normal for autos? Is it the electronics or is this maybe a precursor to a problem?

Bill, the accel lag is due to the drive by wire accelerator. I have heard that all the mustangs do it. I really don't notice it all the time. I guess we will have to adjust to it

My lag went away after the SCT tune.....that's your best bet....thanks for the props on the exhaust in my video beachboy...never thought about it, but I guess the engine and exhaust could be drowning out the whine at acceleration.....god love it! hahaha Happy holidays all!

Just to clarify, mine whines on acceleration only, & it is definitely from the trans. I do not get any noises upon deceleration.

Your cars in the rain too.

I have posted often about my car having the same whining noise during accelleration, not decels. I have an auto V-6. The noise is quite annoying, and usually begins at 40 MPH. At 60 MPH, you can't cover it up with the stereo, and at 70 MPH, the noise is gone. I noticed it right away when I drove my car home from the dealership. I live 150 miles from where I bought the car, so I decided to take it (after 2,100 miles) to my local ford dealer.
I also thought the whine was coming from the tranny, but was told it is from the rear end. My car has been in the shop since Monday. A new rearend has been ordered. I don't have a clue as to when it will be ready, but I won't settle for a car that makes that kind of whine during everyday driving. I really don't think that the majority of folks here experiencing the whine duringh decel. have the same noise.
I had smaller problems like fuel kickback and dash rattles also. I'd have the car in the shop if you are bothered by the noise (IMHO).

Hi Ponyman
Your noise sounds different then what myself & others are describing. With the radio on you can't hear it. You can also hear it change with each shift, were as a rear end noise will be more constant. Plus, if the radio can't hide the noise you know it is a real problem. Hope you get the car back as you expect.
