Automatic Tranny & 1st Gear

lol found something interesting..... those with the at transmission, we have P R N D 3 2 1. We'll if you are in drive or have overdrive turned off, shoot even shifting manual, if you drop it straight to first it will not hurt your tranny.. It said that it willl shift town to the next gear and slow down and continue till it reaches 1st...
very interesting.. Doesn't drop straight to 1st ... good to know for those who will be driving the stang this winter... like me... At Least the Snow tires with studs are on

The automatic transmissions on these cars are very good. I drove my '05 almost every day through the last winter. We don't get a lot of snow out here, but we get plenty of black ice. With the selector in 2, the transmission will start in 2 and you won't break the wheels loose as quickly as you would starting in D or 1. I used to do the same thing with my old stick cars. Start in 2nd.

Also, with the button on the selector handle, you can drop out of OD and get some engine braking down a hill or around a curve. Works great and it won't hurt the tranny. They even recommend it in the Owner's Manual.

Most all Ford drive start out in 2nd (when selected) for that very reason, more traction. NEVER take off in full throttle in second, you will hurt the trans.

Poor man's traction control back in the day..................
