Well I am glad to read these posts. I had to order the auto for my wife's sake. She can drive a stick and after driving a GT stick, I thought maybe she'd agree with it. Not so lucky. She's getting lazy in her old age and just doesn't want to mess with shifting on a regular basis. She has to be able to drink her coffee and talk on the cell phone while driving (hey & she's blonde, too ). We ordered the GT vert w/auto on 1/27 and it will be built on 3/6. I wasn't real happy about the auto, but with some mods and what I've read here, sounds like I'm going to be a happy camper after all.

Just hope the Mrs. doesn't read this.

Ordered the Auto because wife didn't want to shift. The good part was she let me keep my '89 GT 5sp Convt.
I am very happy with this new Trans, first time I nailed it and kicked down to low gear scared the out of her
Going through the gears it stays right in the power band. Put a set of 3:73's and it will fly!
Go with the Auto to make both of you happy

I ordered my '06 with the automatic, and have not regretted my decision one bit. My '05 with the manual shift was nice, but after having the experience of driving both as daily drivers over a period of time, my preference would be the automatic over the manual. The shifts are quick and precise, with no lag between gears. With the automatic, the cup holders can actually be functional, where with the manual shift, anything you set in them was in the way. As far as the driving experience, both are equally rewarding, just because of the fact that "IT'S A MUSTANG GT". And how wonderful it is to be the proud owner of one. 06 GT Vert Auto = Good
06 GT Ver Auto + JLT II CAI + 4.10 gears + Steeda Pulley + Steeda Springs + Doug's Automagically delicious tunes = OMFG!

I've manually shifted a couple of times and it responds very well. It feels as if it immediately shifts when I manually shift and not the computer kicking in. I'll be going to the 1/4 in April and will post more about Manual Shifting vs Auto Launch when I do.

People give me alot of crap for having an auto GT. Even thought this sounds like and elementary argument but I always tell them, "I have the same amount of gears with about 5 or 6 less hp. It's a driver difference in a race." I've beat my friends 06 5spd by simply outlaunching him. This tranny is alot better than my Dad's 5spd Auto G35.

Same with me about the wife thing.....had to get an auto or no car. Soooooooo.......we got an auto, she drove it once then said "it's too powerful", hasn't been behind the driver's seat since. Oh well. Lidio at Alternative Auto fixed me up.

Comparably (and I DO MEAN COMPARABLY with intakes, tunes, gears if both switched to something like a 3:73 or 4:10) equiped sticks wouldn't be able to keep up with our cars.

And you're in Michigan.....call Lidio @ Alternative Auto (www.alternativeauto.com) and ask for his opinion. Between him (and what I've read about Doug at Bamachips), you won't go wrong with an auto.
