Yes I like it for that too. I have known a couple of people that have been driving along. Then whne stopped at a stop light, someone runs up, opens the door, and steals what is on the passenger seat. If you chase them, your car is on the road at a stop light, so it kinda makes you helpless.

Fortunately, I don't live in areas like that anymore, but I still do travel near some.

Well I guess Im lucky I don't live in an area like that. But even if I did I still don't like things automatically going on or off. heck, I don't even like auto trannies.

from what i read it seems like it's just the auto. but if for some reason you've gotten it to work, that's awesome. i'll have to give it a try when i get home...see what happens.

Hmmm.. Doesn't work on mine (5spd manual, no Active anti theft). Gone through the activation/deactivation process several times. Getting the confirmation tones from the horn but nothing changes.

Just wondering, do you guys actually like this feature? I've had it on other cars and if you ask me its the most annoying thing ever. Thank God they give you the option to disable it. Actually I don't like anything operating "automatic", dome light, headlights, doorlocks, radio, etc....

Just my opinion.
Why would automatic door locks annoy someone?

Did not know she came with auto locking doors until the first time we drove it. And like did you hear that? Kool. Glad the wife got the auto for her. I wish the car was available with more auto features, but I know its a Mustang and I like to the max and then some just the way it is.

If my memory is working correctly today, I seem to remember that the locking takes place when you reach the speed of 3 mph. The car must be in gear and moving for the auto lock to happen. Mine's and automatic and it happens as described. I like it as asafety feature. IMHO.

AUTO Lock (if Equipped)

On Vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, this feature automatically locks all vehicle doors when:

1. all doors are closed
2. ignition is in the 3 (ON) position
3. brake is pressed before reaching 5 mph (8 km/h), and
4. the vehicle increases to more than 5 mph (8 km/h)

RELOCK

Autolock feature repeats when:

1. an "autolock" occurance has already taken place,
2. the brake is drpressed while vehicle speed is less than 5 mph (8 km/h)
3. any vehicle door is opened and then all doors become closed again,
4. then the vehicle increases to more than 5 mph (8 km/h)

per page 63 of the owner's manual

Yeah, I read the part in the manual about it being with automatics. What's confusing me is that another member (r22tech) has a 5 spd manual without Active anti theft (I assume since he listed all other options when his car came in but didn't list Active anti theft) and his autolock works. My car is equipped the same, so my question is; what option/trim level is equipped with autolock?

I'm looking forward to try this, anyways - - being that I have a manual with no active theft.

Coincidentally, I was thinking about this on the way to work this morning. I disabled my Explorer's auto lock, because 1) the locks are conveniently on the arm rest and 2) it is annoying to have the doors lock automatically when making real short trips, moving the car, driving in the neighborhood. I don't forget to lock the doors when leaving the neighborhood, because of the convenient position.

The door locks are not right at the fingertips on the Mustang, being on the door and not the arm rest, so i planned to check out the manual when I got home tonight. This post comes at the perfect time.

Hopefully, it works. I haven't given much thought to why this would be for automatics and not manuals; but what the heck.

Because everytime I go to drop someone off or pick them up I have to unlock the stupid door, its not a big deal but it is one more step in the process. I like to keep things simple and besides, its one more thing to pay for and one more thing to break. If I feel I need my doors locked for safety then I will do so but thats hardly ever the case for me. If I lived in an area that I always needed my doors locked then the first thing I would do is look into moving instead of buying a car that locks the doors automatically.

Like I said, its just my opinion. B)

By the way, if you guys are having trouble disabling or enabling it you have to do the steps perfectly, you miss one thing or even take too long to do it, it won't work.

I disabled mine because I did not like being locked in. If I want the doors locked, I will lock them. Same with the belt minder, I wear my seatbelt but I disabled the reminder. You are right if you miss one of the steps or take too long you have to start over. It took me a couple of times but I did it very soon after I got my car.

Power windows and locks should be an option.

Power Windows & Locks were std. on GT's in 1994 but became optional in mid '95 so they could offer the '95.5 GTS model. This continued though '97, but they no longer marketed it as a GTS. They were optional on V6 Mustangs '94-97. This was true for Coupes only, ALL Convertibles came std. with Power Windows & Locks.

Power Windows & Locks finally became std. on ALL Mustangs in 1998 (as did Air Conditioning, Remote Keyless Entry, and 80W radio w/CD & Cassette).

Just a reminder to keep your eyes open no matter what part of town you are in. The criminals from the "bad" side tend to come to the "good" side of town to "borrow" your car for a while. So don't get complacent whether your car is locked or not. End of safety class. Thank you.
