When I ordered my GT they only had a V6 for me to test drive and I noticed it had self locking doors when u started to drive the doors locked. For some reason I think that the autos are the only ones that have the auto locking doors. I was just woundering since I ordered a GT with the stick. Thanks Kevin

GT w/ 5spd manual- mine does it....it is programmable and is in the owners manual. Factory ships car with this feature disabled-----read the owner's manual folks, there is more to these cars than meets the eye

You can't read the manual, but you will read the post explaining the same thing?

From page 63 of the owners manual:

Deactivating/activating the autolock feature
Before following the procedure, make sure that the ignition is in the 1
(OFF/LOCK) position and all vehicle doors are closed.
You must complete Steps 1-7 within 30 seconds or the procedure will
have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, you must
wait 30 seconds.
1. Turn the ignition to the 3 (ON) position.
2. Press the control three times.
3. Turn the ignition from the 3 (ON) to the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position.
4. Press the control three times.
5. Turn the ignition back to the 3 (ON) position. The horn will chirp.
6. Press the control, then press the control. The horn will
chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long
chirp) if autolock was activated.
7. Turn the ignition to the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position. The horn will chirp
once to confirm the procedure is complete.

(I censored it to make you pick up your mouse and read the online version available at TMS)

Same here. I went through the procedure, got the chirp confirmations, didn't seem to do anything.

Will have to try again, but this is not a big deal to me.

Just wondering, do you guys actually like this feature? I've had it on other cars and if you ask me its the most annoying thing ever. Thank God they give you the option to disable it. Actually I don't like anything operating "automatic", dome light, headlights, doorlocks, radio, etc....

Just my opinion.

I had a pontiac rental car for like a week & it had this same feature. I almost always lock my doors when I get in anyway so this won't bother me. In fact it's easier because of where the stinkin door lock switch is. I am sure with it being located nearer the window beside the door handle I won't be so automatic to hit it everytime I get in the car. So, thank's for posting how to disarm it. I may try it for fun when I get mine.

BTW I have skimmed the manual online here & don't remember reading anything about that. I just kinda picked up the highlights like duplicating a key & remote & the seatbelt chime thing. I guess I will have to brush up on it so that when I get mine the dealer won't waste my time explaining it.

Thanks again

The way I understood the owners guide, only cars with automatic transmissions have the auto lock feature.

This is a little off topic from the locking subject, but does the dome light slowly dim out, or just turn right from on to off when you shut the door?

I like the safety feature of having the auto-door locks, especially when you are in any seedy areas.....that way someone isn't going to run up and open the door and yank anybody out of the car. As far as if it's a feature that is only on the automatic tranny cars, I don't know. B)
