Daily city driver here, so I'm still convinced I made the right choice going for the auto.

I love having an Auto. NO regrets here at all.
The only time you'll have an issue is if your like me and take your stang to car shows. The first thing ALOT of people will say is its a GT and you got an Auto... WHY? So you will find yourself defending the auto all the time.

I don't regret mine, especially after the tune it really performs well.
The only complaint I have is other people tell me I should have got a manual, but I ignore them

I am for the manual. Everycar I owned has been a manual.

Plus an automatic sports car dosen't seem right to me. It is like a boy wearing girls clothes.

Just my opinion though, do what ya want. it's your car.

LOL wel I guess it depends on the girl whose clothing youmight wear. Ai carumba the memories of youth....

I really like the 5 spd auto. Its the best auto I have ever had.

Really on the fence with which tranny to get in my vert. Have heard mostly good things about both transmissions.
Live in the city. I don't regret the decision one bit. Got tired of shifting. Don't race., so I'm good with the Auto.

If they made the Lincoln LS 1 SELECT SHIFT 5r55s tranny available that would be even sweeter than the one we have now!

The only thing I dont like about the auto is it looks so breakable. When I test drove the auto I just had this nagging feeling I could easily break the cheap plastic

Take the Chuck Norris attitude: You don't need to defend what doesn't need defending.

I've never regretted getting the auto. And if anyone tries to give me any crap about it, I just tell them to meet me at the track and try to beat me.

There are some open stretches of road that just make me want to jam the clutch and gooooooo! It's a 98-2 type of love...

I test drove a manual before I ever purchased my Mustang. I ordered an automatic for all practical reasons. After I placed my order for kicks I test drove an automatic and thought it was really a nice drive, but the very next day I called my salesman and told him to change order to a manual. I am so glad I changed my mind as I feel I would have really missed out on something as far as the driving experience with a manual.

Been there... done that with the 5-speed manual in my '87 GT. At this point in my life the auto was the only choice. Love it. Would do it again.

Well, here's my two bits.
I've owned 7 Mustang GT's with a stick and number eight has the Auto. Would I do it again, probably!

My feedback on the auto is this:
Straight line acceleration is great, shifts at 6200 rpm (WOT), but haven't gotten rubber in second yet, and that has got to be the torque management programming. Shifts very nicely and it is silky smooth during daily driving. I can drink my coffee on the way to work no problem.

Complaints

In Drive, the thing is too inclined to stay in fifth. I would never tool around under 40 in fifth with a stick, but this tranny wants to. I drive around town with overdirve off and it seems happier. No apparent gas mileage penalty either.

Coming out of work there is a right turn, no stop onto a country road with a 55 mph limit. The tranny seems to bog coming out of that turn, I can feel it downshift twice before she goes. Kind of feels like an old holley with a dead accelerator pump. If I drop the shifter into second for that turn, it feels better coming out of the corner. I wish they gave it the ability to manual shift like the Charger. Rumour is it is coming, and if I was buying an 06 Auto, I would consider waiting.

That said, I don't regret the auto choice. It makes the car more of a cruiser than a racer and for 98% of the time, thats what I want it for. I have yet to get taken off the line though I don't miss the stick at all.

No complaints! I shifts tighter than my 95 GT auto and I didn't consider that bad.

I got tired of city driving with a stick.holding the clutch at red lights and slow traffic got on my nerves, plus many a drink spilled while trying to shift.I don't race so the auto was the way to go for me.

I have the auto with my GT convertible and am fully happy with it. It has all the power/speed I need for autobahn driving and curving roads here in Germany plus not a big gas mpg difference from the manual. Over the long haul I also believe the auto will be less trouble as to mx/replacement.

The sound is much better on the manual, when u down shift it just talks to you and it is better on gas.
