Sounds like a bad idea to me... The radar detector will stay on when you turn the car off since most dome/map lights will work weather the key's in the ignition or not...
Feel free to let me know if I'm wrong. It'll be a real pain in the hiney to have to turn it off/on/off/on... The one time you forget to turn it on you get caught doing 70 in a 55.

This is pretty slick. Although not a Mustang interior, the person custom mounted the remote Passport display into his dash.

What I've done is neatly routed the 2 run line from the socket in the middle of the dash in between the little crevaces in the dash, then down under and wire tied the extra line up under the dash. The detector sits nice and conceiled on the far left side of the dash (double stick tape) and the cable is barely noticable. The only real problem is of course the end of the cable hangin out of the power point in the middle of the dash. At some point I may decide to "fix" that.

We'll see. For now, it's in and working great.

Radar detectors draw VERY little current. Unless you plan on leaving it on with the car not started for like 7 months, you don't have to worry about it. We're not talking electric heater here.

I thought I've seen wireless radar detectors out there. That would sure save hardwiring one. I suppose it doesn't help if you're already 400 clams into one.

The best was when he said does your stearing wheel have chains on it because mine does. Then he said I bet your mud flapps do not say get back on them What the heck does that have to do with anything. To top it all off was the reason that cops can not read his licsence plate
"I have a neon light that reflects the radar" CLASSIC !!!!

I like my bell and it tested number two in test. Around $200 from E bay seller located in Rogers Arkansas. His price beats anyone and they are new. It has saved me $$ on the boring interstate. Its hard to keep this Stallion under 80 without the cruse control.

What I normally do is mount the radar detector to the visor, and route the wire under the headliner and inside one of the A-pillars after removing the trim. It usually pops right off. I remove the radio fuse and place a bare wire in the socket, and then reinsert the fuse. I use a test light to find a good grounded screw under the dash to mount the negative wire to. Works like a champ if you can't find a wire to splice into.
