Anyone given a nonrefundable deposit?
I haven't tried to get a deposit back, but if this wait gets too long, I might think about it. You shouldn't have any trouble, though. The dealership doesn't make any money on the sale until they see the tail-lights driving down the street. The dealer certainly won't get stuck with a Mustang in inventory, the demand is too high. If you really want it back, talk to the General Manager (not your salesperson) and politely request it. If that doesn't work, mention a lawyer, or there is always Small Claims Court.
I didn't have to put up a deposit - my dealer said they'd have no problem selling the car I ordered if I didn't want it. (If it ever comes in.)
My salesman gave me a hard time about getting my deposit back, I told him I wanted to see the general manager. Three days later my check was in the mail.
If they have not cashed your check, put a stop check on it.

Well, I am a lawyer, but I am really hoping I don't have to make any threats. I am kind of hoping it will just be cordial and they will give it back. They have cashed the check, but it has not been serialized, so they have not lost anything yet.

I'll be the first to admit, I have not been waiting a long time. They are telling me based on my priority that I should get it around May or June, and I just don't want to wait that long. Plus, I have fallen in love with a 2001 red corvette convertible.

Eh...I have a longtime girlfriend, so what chicks think doesn't really matter. If worse comes to worse, I have the experience of driving a vette for a year or two and then get mustang when they are more easily available. The vette should keep its value a little better than the mustang since it has already taken its new car depreciation, though don't get me wrong, I wouldn't buy either for an investment. Also, this vette only has 14k miles on it, so HOPEFULLY there won't be many problems. (famous last words)
