Anyone "fix" their plenum cover (after hood liner rubbing damage)?

I bought the Ford plenum cover for my 06 GT, and like many others found out too late that the black underhood cover rubs against it, causing marks and scrapes on the chrome pony and other areas of the plenum. So two questions:

- anyone try and touch-up the affected areas on the plenum with paint? If so, what did you use?
- anyone figure out a way to stop the rubbing so it doesn't happen again?

I saw mine was getting damaged, so I ordered a granatelli strut bar to protect it. Keeps the hood pad from hitting the cover.

You could respray it easily I bet. Or it is cheap enough to replace if you have to.

You should be able to repaint it with regular old Krylon or something similar. You don't need high temp paint I wouldn't think. About the only thing you can do to prevent it from happening again is try to get the hood liner tighter to the hood or cut out the section that's rubbing.

just go to express paint, and get the primer, color, and clearcoat of your car and make it body color, looks hot I think. Good luck

I have a slight rub on my plenum cover but haven't repainted it. To fix the problem I just pushed on the hood cover untill I found a spot, left to right, dead center that held the cover up where a section of raised hood frame was present. I then carefully drilled a hole in the hoods frame and installed 1 plastic push retainer (christmas tree) and I haven't had a hood cover to plenum cover rub since.

You could always let hireman paint you up a custom one. His work is truely remarkable.

Use clear protective film on the chrome pony. Or take off the plenum for normal driving and slap it on for the car shows/meets.

You can do what I did and take the rubber grommets off the two side mounts and put the cover on, then put the grommets down firmly over top of the studs. It holdes it in place very nicely and drops the height nearly a 1/4". No plenum rubbing at all! It also helps with strut tower bar clearance.

You're out of luck with the chrome unfortunately.

I corrected the hood liner rub issue by installing some 2 sided foam tape to the under side of the liner to adhere it to the hood where it sags and rubs the plenum cover.
