The quality on this car is fantastic!! Just drive the car, and you can feel it.

AAI used alot of new methods (to Ford) to build this body.

Other Ford platforms are now learning from AAI on how to build a body, and launch it.

Also look at the quality of the Mazda6, also built at AAI.

Compare that to all the launch issues at Ford Chicago, and you can see why senoir Ford personnel are saying the that the launch of the Mustang at AAI was " the smoothest and best launch".

I am a Quality Manager in the Automotive Industry, and there are always issues to contend with. The Stang is a new product, being built in a new plant - There are going to be issues and concerns.

The new C6 Corvette was having Transmission and body panel problems. I wouldn't be surprised if the Stang had a few bugs too!
Its to be expected! The best bet would be to buy a 2006 model, most of the bugs should be worked out by then.

best advice I've heard on this topic so far! probably what I'll do. That way I won't loose so much on the 04 stang, when it's traded in, but its gonna be hard holdin off on that 05 !

My current 10 year old Probe GT, an AAI product from Flat Rock, has had very good quality and overall reliability. If my current car is any indication, the new Mustang should be quite good in this regard and a big step forward over the current model. The infusion of Mazda quality control and manufacturing methods is, I think, a very good thing for the Mustang.

The antenna is sad though, why oh why do they still use those fender mounted black poles. Ford even knows they are ugly and takes them off in pictures. lol :nono:
I can not remember the last time I saw an auto manufacture's photo of their product w/ a fixed mast antenna installed.

BTW... After buying 2.1 other vehicles that were completely new ('97 Jeep Wrangler, '03 Saturn Ion & '94 Ford Mustang -didn't get to keep long enough) I will say to those concerned w/ quality... DON'T buy any new car -or even used car for that matter, that is less than 3-4 years into a run!

If I may add my opinion on the quality issue from personal experience; I currently own two 2002 Thunderbirds, one 2004 Thunderbird, a 2002 Explorer, and a 2003 Escape. Problems? None. Quality on all vehicles; very good!
Time spent on service other than routine maintenance, oil changes, etc: none.
My father owns the top of the line Toyota 4 dr. sedan. I have driven it several times and have found it to have more road noise than any of the Birds, and a slight "pull" to the left when driving like an alignment issue. My experience leads me to believe the 2005 Mustang will be just as good.....probably better. Perhaps my blood is Ford blue, but it has been earned!

I do not think the new 05 mustang is going to be poor quality i just have to question the motor mount brakets, because from watching the special on dicovery channel had on the mustang, they had problems with the motor mount brakets even with a slightly heavier stock motor, because it was mostly stock???????

Motor mounts should be fine for the stock engine because the suspension won't be as harsh on it. This is a very stiff suspension for racing and it's going to be very hard on the mounts, Imo

I stopped at a nearby Ford dealer last weekend hoping they got the new Stang in. No Stang, but there was a new 500 out front. This car had to be the biggest piece of garbage I've ever seen. The door handles were so loose they felt like they were going to break off, the ditch molding wasn't even stuck down to the car in the back, the paint looked like it was applied by a rattle can, and I could not get the driver's door to close. I understand this car has probably had a fair share of abuse, but the dealer did say they have had it for 2 days. There are also blurbs all over the net about the poor quality of the 500. I'm sure Ford uses the same suppliers for multiple vehicles so I'm worried the Mustang may be in trouble since it's a new vehicle also. If the '05 Mustang was even 10% as bad as that 500 it would be un acceptable to me and I would have to pass. I am not expecting Lexus quality but I would like to be able to open and close my door. Anyone else have quality concerns?
Must have been one heck of a lemon.

A great-uncle of mine just bought a Five Hundred with AWD, I got to check it out a couple days ago. Tight and solid, like I'd expect from Honda or Toyota. His only complaint about it is the fact that he can't feel the transmission shift... but that's because it has a continuously variable transmission, so he said he'd get used to it, eventually.

If the new Mustang is built as well as his Five Hundred, then I don't think you guys should have too much to worry about. [/b][/quote]
See the quality assured from someone that owns a 500 and his only complaint is that he can't feel the tranny shifting, that is good because the transmission is smooth and of good quality. If yoyu want Honda quality then your car will rust out around the wheel wells like every old accord I have seen. The quality of the 05 Mustang is going to be better then the previous Mustangs but that is good. My Dad has a 96 Mustang GT and the car is perfect with 70,000 plus miles on it and if it were not for the great looking new Mustang coming out he would keep is 96.

Quality also has to due with the customer taking care of his/her car and makes sure that they due all the proper maintenence with the oil changes, washing and waxing etc. and with doing this it doesn't matter what car make you drive,

You people complaining already about quality need to relax and wait until you get to drive this Mustang, if you don't and get a Honda you will be regreting it when you see it. Honda is no Mustang.

Doesn't the new 500 have the CV transmission? If so that could be a big help on acceleration times I think.

Yeah, which is why you can't feel the transmission shift-- there are no gears to shift! Instead, a chain and pulley system simply adjusts as the RPM's climb. Again, you feel no shift-- you only see the RPM's rise and fall.

It's actually pretty fascinating...

The AWD models automatically get the CVT. The FWD models give the option of a 6-speed automatic.

Well, my 2001 Mustang had a few problems:

1.) The first day I got it, I went to open the trunk, and to my surprise, the lock fell into the trunk! It wasn't bolted tight enough! I was really MAD!

2.) Later that week, I went to show my car to my buddy, and anti-freeze was leaking from the bottom of my car. A hose clamp wasn't tight enough or something? So it went back to the dealer again!!

3.) Both tail lights within a month or two were full of condensation ( Water ), so back to the Dealer it goes again, for new tail lights. 2 or 3 months later, the driver side fogged up again, but I didn't bother taking it back.

Remember, this was a brand new 2001 car. Those were some minor problems, but problems you don't expect to have on the first day you buy the car or the first week or month you have it.

After all the bugs were worked out, the car was fine.
But, don't be surprised if you have some quality issues on any new model cars - Stang, 500, Freestyle etc.

Anybody who buys a 2005 Mustang, please tell us about any quality issues, so we know what to expect! I will have my Dealer check any problem areas, before I take mine home!!

The Five Hundred is a very nice ride. Test drove a black one this morning, AWD, can't believe it is so smooth on the shifts, even when flooring it. Well, it technically doesn't shift, but you know what I mean. Definetly accelerates faster than any Taurus I've driven.

I really liked the Ford 500 too!
Wonder when they are going to put a larger motor in it? Or more HP?
If there has been one gripe I read about the 500, its that it doesn't have enough power.
I couldn't tell, because I was driving the car in a parking lot ( Ford Experience ).
Fell in love with the fully loaded leather 500.

My F150 in particular didn't have any problems, but if you go to f150online.com and read for a while you will find a bunch of recurring problems (or bugs I should say). It's just part of a new release the kinks must be worked out. Every manufacturer has these, and there is no way around them.

As far as everybody preaching by American. I would like to remind you all that most of your so called Foreign cars are built right here in America supporting our local economy. Maybe that is why they have the best quality!!! Americans are the best workers in the world!!!
