I stopped at a nearby Ford dealer last weekend hoping they got the new Stang in. No Stang, but there was a new 500 out front. This car had to be the biggest piece of garbage I've ever seen. The door handles were so loose they felt like they were going to break off, the ditch molding wasn't even stuck down to the car in the back, the paint looked like it was applied by a rattle can, and I could not get the driver's door to close. I understand this car has probably had a fair share of abuse, but the dealer did say they have had it for 2 days. There are also blurbs all over the net about the poor quality of the 500. I'm sure Ford uses the same suppliers for multiple vehicles so I'm worried the Mustang may be in trouble since it's a new vehicle also. If the '05 Mustang was even 10% as bad as that 500 it would be un acceptable to me and I would have to pass. I am not expecting Lexus quality but I would like to be able to open and close my door. Anyone else have quality concerns?

Yes, I am worried. As much as I want one, there's no way I am going to buy it if it's a piece of poo. This is why I'll test drive and check it out first before I commit. I know it isn't going to be Honda quality but it better not be anything like the last generation.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. This thread seems wothless. The Mustang isn't even on the lots yet and its quality is being questioned. Why not write back after you see a real one or go buy a "Honda Quality" car that you don't have to worry about.

Something does not sound right. I don't think Ford would sabotage their success by introducing sub par cars considering the competition and customer expectation. :dunno: Ford knows whats at stake, and I think we should not judge before we see. :nono: The success of the Mustang is more important to the viability of Ford today than the original was after the Edsel fiasco. I trust Bill Ford will see that all goes well :nice:

THERE IS NO WAY THIS CAR WILL BE POOR QUALITY -- I know some very reliable people and everyone has said that they have gone to great lengths to improve EVERYTHING about this car. IT WILL be an amazing vehicle....in terms of margins, performance, handling...everything. The one I was in was amazing!

I would like to have an 05 Mustang with the quality of a Honda ANY day of the week.

A great-uncle of mine just bought a Five Hundred with AWD, I got to check it out a couple days ago. Tight and solid, like I'd expect from Honda or Toyota. His only complaint about it is the fact that he can't feel the transmission shift... but that's because it has a continuously variable transmission, so he said he'd get used to it, eventually.

If the new Mustang is built as well as his Five Hundred, then I don't think you guys should have too much to worry about.

As nice as this new Mustang is, with all of it's improvements in both handling and overall design, people need to remember what a Mustang is.....a powerful, fun and AFFORDABLE performance car. If Ford wanted it to be a luxury performance car they would have built it as such and priced it accordingly. When you consider all factors, the new Mustang is an incredible car as well as a great value. :nice:
