Congrats Tin Pony!

Now keep it away from Hemborg Ford.

Pulled the trigger on a NAV yesterday, ordered it from KC, he says it WILL work with Shaker 1000 and is tuned differently for convertibles. Interesting.

Bee Bop, any install issues when you get your unit, please let us know? I'll be following in your footsteps!

Got It / Long install instructions

It was waiting on my front porch when I got home this afternoon. Below is a pic of all the parts that goes with the unit. You will get the Nav unit, GPS antenna, Manual, Quick Refrence guide, and the Nav DVD. The install is pretty straight forward.
1. Remove the tim /shift boot from shifter.
2. Open console and remove the two screws from the upper console. Then gently pull the upper half of the console off.
3. remove the two side pannels from the center stack by pulling towards you.
4.disconnect the fan switch plug and the A/C plug. Believe me it is easier to do this now before you remove the center stack trim bolts.
5. remove the 6 center stack trim bolts. Slide the cover towards you and down a little to clear the tab at the top. Then disconnect the upper switches and power adapter.
6. remove the 4 bolts securing the radio to the center stack.
7. disconnect the three connections on the back of the radio and the antenna wire.
8. Remove the Instrument cluster bezel by gently pulling towards you. It helps to put the wheel it the lowest position. Rotate the bottom of the cover towards you and remove.
9. Remove the kick pannel by removeing the two bolts from the bottom and pulling it towards you. you can leave it hanging loosely if you want. If you remove it you will need to disconnect the light switch and your lights will come on.
10. remove the four bolts from the guage cluster and disconnect the wiring, then remove it.
11. The GPS antenna is mounted behind the guages. See the attached PDF for general location. I didn't have the slots to clip the antenna to the dash so I improvised. I took some 3M foam tape and stuck it to the underside of the dash top. there is a pocket formed where the dash turns back under. I placed it there.
12. Run the cable to the center stack and connect it to the nav unit. Connect the antenna to the adapter. I found it easier to reconnect the wiring before connecting the antenna.
13. Just reverse setps 1 -10 for reassembly.

For those of you who were wondering it does work with the Mobile Ease bluetooth unit.

Also I found a company that make an adapter that will let you play DVDs on the nav unit. It also has a connection for a rearview camera. Here is the site http://www.tvandnav2go.com/ford-navigation-system.html

The only issue I have had is the navigation freaks out because it doesn't have any info about the streets in my area. That's what I get for living in the boonies. Once I get on a main road it is happy. Does any one know if there is a newer dvd than release 4P?

Sorry about being so long

3 Questions:

First who is this KC / Kevin guy whom you are all talking about and how to contact him if interested in buying one!
I have a 07' GT/CS Vert with Shaker 1000

Second is how will it work with the Shaker1000 and will wit work with the Vert mod that is already built into the Shaker1000 unit. You can switch with the menu button to "Driver-Seat, All-seats, and Convertible" will this unit also be able to switch between these features?

Third has anyone worried about getting this unit in fear of having a convertible and someone slashing the roof to steal it? Since the Active Anti-Theft doesnt have anything against reaching in the car or against slashing roofs?

Thank you and look forward to your responses!

Not sure about the "Drivers, All, Convertible" part, but Kevin Casey is the parts manager at Clevinger Ford, on here his id is 05stangkc, and their e-mail is clevparts@aol.com.

I am amazed at how many people all of a sudden can not figure out where they are going or how to get there.

Well, I think you have to view NAV as a tool, like any other. If you follow the directions to the letter - ignoring common sense - then you could end up following the road over an embankment or off a condemned bridge or something equally stupid like that.

But if you're in an unfamiliar city - or a part of town you don't know - trying to find some obscure address, a sexy female voice will simply guide you there, turn by turn. And really, what's wrong with that?

Maps are fine, but there's nothing worse than trying to glance at a map while steering and shifting (and drinking your latte and changing playlists on your iPod ).

The ability to find the nearest ATM or gas station can also be useful, too. Again, the NAV is most useful when you're travelling in unfamiliar territory, whether it's 10 miles from your home, or 1000.

I used to do inspections/estimates for 2 flooring companies and my own, well over 10,000 houses(up to 15/day-over 1000+ square mile area) and never needed a nav(and for the vast majority back then-nor a cell phone). Its bling. If you're already lost(or just not good in finding your way in general) the last thing you need to be doing is fiddling with a screen in the middle of the center console. People who get lost easilly typically do not have decent coordination as it is. Most people I know that have it use it when traveling to destinations they have been going to for 20 years. Not to mention, having your music constantly interrupted to hear a mechanical voice is mind numbing. When I get trades with nav, 90% of the time the stored locations are local, like shopping malls.

heh, I was just thinking of the music thing, cranking Saliva:

Now has come the day that I take the lead and I make you follow.
Toast the champagne, cause I came for greed and not for tomorrow.
If it feels good then it feels good and I do it all day.
You want me to play you best bring your brain, you best bring your money-yeah
Make me a sup...LEFT TURN AHEAD ON PRETTY BLUE BUTTONS LANE
......who you are.
Razorblade and lines and I walk the line without feeling no one.
**** my throat is dry, I can't taste the wine from these empty bottles.
Films and magazines its all what I need and all what I planned on.
Where's my limousine.
It's just a dream that I won't wake....TURN LEFT NOW ON PRETTY BLUE BUTTONS LANE DING DING DING
.....a superstar.
No matter who you are.
And all of my pills and all of my drinks is makin me, makin me.
And all that I feel and all that I see is makin me, makin me, makin me.
Cover me in greed, cause you planted the seed when you fed my..RIGHT TURN AHEAD ON SHOPPING MALL DRIVE...

Like I say, it's a tool, like any other. Its value depends upon what use the driver puts it to. I've no doubt there are many people who get one only to use it for stuff they could quite readily figure out for themselves, or for the "bling" factor, as you mentioned. But as I said before, if you're travelling, it's invaluable to prevent yourself from getting thoroughly lost.

I know for myself, it'll be a big help. The number of times I have had to go out and find some out-of-the-way shooting location - and ended up d!cking around with a map that was worthless - have been many, and it's frustrating to waste 20 minutes getting all turned around.

As to the voice interrupting the audio system, I believe you can swtich that off and simply glance at the screen to follow the visual route guidance.

And a static map will never tell you where you are in real time, in relation to where you're trying to go.

Finally, distracting though it may be, it's not nearly as bad as trying to fritter about with a map in your hand. At least with the NAV screen, you don't have to take your hands off the wheel to read it. And at night, maps aren't self-illuminating - another point to keep in mind if you're lost or trying to find an address when it's dark out...which makes everything twice as difficult.

I'm trying now to think of something in the last 20 years of a place or an event that a prior phone call, road sign, or an occasional mapquest couldn't figure out...

Only thing I like about nav is the entire song title shows in the screen at once.

When I go on a DX I tinker with them, but typically only to see if the nav knows where I'm already going. Explaining them to new owners gives me a headache-ugh-I may end up in front of this person sometime-on a motorcycle...

Well...

- Do you travel much? Beyond the state line, that is?

- Who are you gonna call when it's late at night and you're trying to find some place for which there is no-one you can readily call?

- Road signs are a mixed bag. They can be hard to see or find (especially at night)...and sometimes are vandalized, or not there, or confusing if it's an unfamilar area. And if there is traffic behind you, and you are driving like a granny trying to find an address (we've all found ourselves behind people like that) it's annoying for other people on the road. NAV simply guides you there >> boom, done.

- It's hard to carry Mapquest with you in your car; a print out is no more valuable than an old-fashioned map.

As to the voice guidance interrupting the stereo, well, if you can't be without the music for the few final minutes to get guided precisely to an important destination, well, that's not the system's fault.

Fortunately for you, you were under no obligation to order the NAV function.

I've driven over 400,000 miles, so I've been around a bit...The other day I almost decided to drive to Vegas from Va for the heck of it(which I have done before-and again with nothing but a car and a debit card-leave home, turn left, and drive 2000+ miles). A couple months ago I went to the hobby store down the street for some model paint and just kept going to NYC to visit some family. I've had quite a few dates end up being a spontanious trip to several beaches for a couple days.

I'm gettin an itch to drive to Chicago for some reason now

Heh, just mapquested it, 701 miles, piece o cake

Forgot to mention: the Ford/Pioneer NAV system also gives you a much better quality audio deck than the Skippers.

Excepting EVERYTHING else, that is reason enough, I think.

I think the shaker is more powerful this year, I can play the same cd's from my 06 MUCH louder with no distortion, enough to leave my ears ringing for a bit afterwards

When I tried out the system in my car, it was plenty loud, believe me. Those door-mounted subs will give you all the gut-thumping sound you need.

I can see the Shaker being more necessary in a top down vert, but I think the coupe does nicely with the 500.

I agree with your line of reasoning 100%.
I have no trouble finding places that I've never been to.
In the past couple of years, I have been to Florida and California and places in between.
NAV is BLING.
Even my GPS is just a toy. It tells me how high I am.
If lost in the woods I am trained to use nature or if I have it,a compass.

No I mean the 500's. For the first couple days I had the new car I was also driving the old one around(I even sit 5' from it now in the showroom). CD's I have had for months in that car-right into the new car-and mucho louder. Even one of the younger turks here at the dealer that rides with me to lunch was like jeeze my ears are ringing. I keep forgetting to drive it around for a bit with no radio to listen for any unusual noises..Its not like the car itself is new to me. And there is no way my left knee got kicked by the door panel on the 'old' one like it does now.
