What type of alarms/anti theft devices do you guys use or reccommend? With the '06 Mustang GT on order I feel I should get something for a car like this to prevent vandlizim or theft. I haven't worried about my other vehicles because they don't draw the attention that this car will. I have no knowledge or experience in alarms and anti theft so I don't know what is the best system. The car will be garaged at home with the attack dog set on Mustang duty so my biggest concern will be when it is sitting in a parking lot.

The dealership said they will sell me a device that will only allow the car to be started if the aftermarket anti-theft FOB is within range (~15'). It would be nice for somebody to not get away with it but I would prefer they not tear up the car trying. This seems like a good idea for the determined car thief who is not intimmidated by the common alarm or anti-theft, but I would like to prevent vandilizm or tampering to begin with perhaps with a proximity or "bump" type alarm.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Is there a reason you don't want to order the active anti theft system that comes with the car? We have it on our 05, and getting it on our 06, and it seems to work well. If you want to go aftermarket, I have always used Viper.

I'm not opposed to factory anti theft, but know nothing about it or how effective it is. If it is sufficient that is fine, just want others opinions. Thanks for your input.

I like the Active-antitheft alarm. I think it's good and 'touchy' at times. meaning if I bump into the car sometimes lightly it will go off. I like the motion sensors inside the car for if you leave your windows down and some prying hands try to rech inside, the alarm goes off. Very nice touch I think.

just remember, an alarm will only keep the honest thieves away. If somebody really wants your car, or to break into it, they can and they will.

We had a Viper 3000 installed on my Stang. We bought the car off a lot, and it didn't come equipped with an alarm, so we had one put in.
