Another one Takes a hit

Saturday I was out for a drive around town, nice day, I was taking it easy. I was in the left lane approaching an intersection, nice bright green lights staring at me from overhead. All of a sudden I see a crappy blue Escort coming in from the right side, in front of me. Lock up the breaks (Don't know why no ABS. but I left tire marks) and end up nailing her right between the drivers side doors. She spins out and ends up stuck on the median to the left, I end up facing her in the lane she was in. Witnesses all around, all saying she ran the red light. I got lots of comments about how that sucks it was such a nice looking car. I almost stayed home to paint the brackets on my MRT hood strut kit, then install it. Kinda wish I had now.
I'm waiting for the appraiser to look at it today or tomorrow, and make a determination. I don't know if the front rails got bent, but all the other front metal is hurt, including having the front left quarter pushed back into the drivers door. I had to climb out of the passenger side.
I kinda hope they don't total it, because I love Sonic Blue, and don't like vVB that much. But if I have to take a brand new car, I guess I can figure some way to live with it. Just hope I can get my mods off of the old car and put them back on the new one.
Here are the pics I took yesterday.

I was just reading my signature. I haven't actually installed the MRT hood struts yet, was going to paint the brackets on Sunday, then install them. I wanted them to match the rest of the car. Saturday kind of killed that for now. I'm waiting to see what the insurance guy says, then I might do the painting to get ready, or I might have an aerasol (sp?) can of Sonic Blue for sale. I think I'll stop by a local dealer to night to take another look at Vista Blue, but from what I've seen, it's just not as purty as Sonic Blue (IMO). My original second choice was Redfire, so since that's still available I might go with that, although I like Vista Blue also. Definitely gonna get the Parchment interior again, I really like it.
I guess the crush points they design in work well, I never even hit the airbag. It brushed my left hand on the steering wheel, that was it.
It kinda sucks waiting for the appraiser to do his thing, but I'd rather he did a good, detailed job than to rush it and make mistakes.
I just hope I'll have a chance to get the parts I've added out before they auction it off or whatever.
Oh yeah, about the other driver. She didn't speak english. She didn't have a drivers license or any ID at all on her. She didn't have insurance. And, she wasn't the registered owner of the car. My insurance company is going after the registered owner, hopefully he had insurance. Although, that shouldn't affect me at all, my company fixes or replaces my car, then get's what they can from the other guy or his insurance company. At least that's how it's supposed to work.

Wow. Glad you're OK, but sad to see a beautiful GT crumpled like that.
I agree, vista blue is a very nice color, but there's something about the sonic blue that grows on you. It'd be hard to replace.
Good luck with the insurance settlement.

Hey, sorry to hear that man. I'm still waiting for my 05 SB GT to be done from the body shop. Had a similar incident...if they total out the car, will you part out those Midwest mirror inserts?

Main thing is you're not hurt. You know sometimes it pisses me off so bad to see a guy who's taking good care of his car and being proud of it and then gets hit by some jerk driving a piece of junk that shouldn't even be on the roads in the first place. I have a pretty good idea on how you feel right now...And I also love my SB with parchment interior.
I don't know how your insurance works in the states but if I was in your place, I'd prefer having this one totaled then repaired. It may be psychological but to me it would never be the same car.
Hope everything works out the best possible way for ya. Good luck Jay

Holy crap, I was going for a walk on the weekend and 2 guys ran through the red light I waved my hands at them, and they thought nothing of it. Why can't people just drive and follow traffic signals.

So sorry about that man
I totally agree with you about the blue. I love the Sonic but I'm not too crazy about the Vista.
You might be able to still get an '05 somewhere in the country... but it probably won't be new.

Glad you weren't injured. I also think it would be in your best interest if they total it. It would be a drag not having the color you love, but that car will never be the same again. Good luck with whatever route you go.
