Another New Hood Strut Kit
#21
Just a little note: All the kits require you to cycle the struts prior to installation. That's normal for struts like that.
I REALLY wish I would I would have known about this kit before I bought mine. :bang:

Does anyone have an email for this guy? Never shopped on Ebay and it won't let me contact him unless I've been registered for 3 days. Need to see if he'll ship to me.
Thanks...
Thanks...

Thanks for the pics Donna. I'm soooo confused :bang: :bang:
I was going with the Redlines, but I don't want to drill holes or use rivets. Then I was going to go with MRTs and paint the swiss cheese brackets. Then I see these. Will it ever stop???? O.K., I'm better now. These look really good, especially with how low they are, it doesn't look like they get much in the way...and for 60 bucks. May have to go this route.

From what I understand, at least RKSport and probably all fiberglass hood manufacturers recommend against using hood struts like this (this one, CDC, MRT, whichever) with their hoods. Fiberglass hoods just aren't made to take pressure at different points the way our metal stock hoods are. I would even be worried about the stock hood, which is one reason I plan to exercise the strut more than a few times before installation.

WARNING DO NOT USE THESE ON A FIBERGLASS HOOD. THE FORCE NEEDED, AS WELL AS THE LOW INSTALL ANGLE CAUSES THE FIBERGLASS HOOD TO CRACK WHEN CLOSING THE HOOD !! I LEARNED THIS THE HARD WAY.

Thanks for the warning. I am assuming they would "loosen up" with some use. From the pics, I think I may still paint the brackets the body color???

Well you guys sold me on em! I just ordered mine and I don't even have my car yet. I'll just put em next to my wheels and tires that are stacked up in my garage. Sure would be nice to have a car to put these mods on. I'm told it will be here on 10-15. We shall see.

I just installed mine... Only thing I didn't really like is the fact that I have to lift the hood about 85% before the hood automatically lifts itself. The redline kit say it lifts itself after about 30%. Does everyone else have the same experience? Maybe they will get better after they get broken in?

Didn't you lift it 100% of the way before the hood struts?

Really though, the point of the question was really to see if this is normal for these Lifts. Is everyone else that has these having the same experience?

I'll let you know as soon as I get mine. I hadn't even thought about that, I just want one that holds it up without that hook thingy (is there a technical automotive word for it? :P)
Edit: Prop rod -- not so technical after all... it's just a rod that props your hood. I think I've been working with computers too long, where you have to give everything a cool name
