Annoying Rattle Fix...
Annoying Rattle Fix...
Hey everyone. Man, what a relief. Just wanted to share how my Sunday afternoon has gone. For the longest time, I've had a really annoying rattle coming from the rear left side of the Mustang. It happens when I'm driving slowly through my neighborhood or when I'm creeping through a parking lot. It's been going on for more than a year but I've been dealing with it. I've tried multiple times to jack the car up, bang/tap on various things and places to no avail. Since I couldn't find the cause, I took the car to my local dealership. They told me they found that the driver's side seat belt bracket that attaches to the frame was loose. When I picked up the car, I didn't even get out of their parking lot before the rattle reared it's ugly head again. I didn't want to turn around and tell them they were wrong, so I just drove home and told myself I'd deal with it again later.
Today was that day. Had some free time and decided to take another look. It must have gotten worse since my previous attempt to fix it because now when I banged on the wheel, I could hear the rattle! I was never able to hear it before when the car wasn't in motion. I proceeded to jack up the rear left side. When I banged on the wheel again to try and track down the cause, the rattle went away. ???
Well, long story long, the forward attachment bolt for the left rear lower control arm was loose. The control arm was rattling back and forth in the frame connection creating the rattle I was hearing. When I jack up the car, it puts pressure on the control arm that's not there when the car is on the ground thus...no rattle. That's why it's taken me so long to find the cause. I was always jacking up the wheel to tap on things.
I tightened up the bolt, downjacked the car and took it for a drive. I'm happy to say the rattle is GONE!! It's so nice to drive around and not hear it anymore. It and I have gotten pretty close over the last year so it's strange to have it fixed. Just wanted share!

Yep, that's about what I was thinking, although I was going to say the control arm's bushing. Similar difference.
Just did my rear lowers and that was the reason why for me. The right rear lower 'front' bushing was just shot to heck. BMRs in place, all rattles gone, and wheel hop is gone too, bonus!
