American Muscle wheels

American Muscle wheels
I bought 4 American Muscle deep dish wheels about 4 years ago. And now they are all pitted, and look terrible. Has anyone else had this problem,?? I wrote them an email, don't know what will come of that. Pretty dissaopinted right now with American Muscle in general. Just washed and cleaned the wheels and this is what they look like.

I'm sorry to see that your wheels are pitting. Have you kept up with cleaning them? I wash my car every 2 weeks to avoid any sort of pitting on the car or wheels. With the winter weather we've been experiencing recently I haven't had a chance to wash my Mustang for about a month. In that short period of time there is slight pitting in the corners that won't come up on my factory wheels!
It's crucial that you clean the wheels at least once every two weeks, I sometimes do once a week!
Please shoot me a PM with your order number and I'll see what I can do you. Your finish warranty has expired but we won't ever leave somebody in the dark!

I'm just curious too if you kept them cleaned and WAXED. There is no reason why they should pit like that, especially in Florida where you have none of the winter crud to deal with. I had cheap Enkei wheels on another car for many years and I never had that problem. No idea what will transpire with your current situation but in the future try this: I use a very simple method by using the Eagle One Nanowax in the spray bottle. A simple spray on, wipe off deal with no rubbing. The overspray does not make the tires white either. Use every month and you will build up a nice layer of wax on those rims that cleans up easy and has a decent shine. Only $5 or so on sale at Advanced or any parts store. I use it religiously on my GT polished aluminum rims and they are pretty much perfect.

I wash my car and clean my wheels, every two weeks or less, the guys at my work always comment I have the cleanest , shiniest car in the lot! I. Live down a dirt road so when it rains and puddles up , I get mud on my fenders, so I often hose the mud off and clean the wheels off too. I keep my wheels clean, I don't wax them as often, but I always wipe them off! The pits just started coming in if say the last month of so.
I'll have to look at my records to see exactly when I bought them.

The 'dirt road' you drive on may be the culprit. I only know this since I lived in FL for over 30 years. Many dirt roads in FL have lime or limerock. Normally no problem but when mixed with water (mud) and allowed to harden, especially in the hot FL sun, problems!
Waxing would be very important for those rims.

All of my friends who have american muscle wheels all have the same issue. I live in south florida and we are surrounded by saltwater. Its to be expected. Hell I had a set of $9000 Lorenzo rims which had the same issue. Its tough to avoid. After 4 years I kind of expect this.

Well Dan I have no paperwork for the wheels, all I know is I purchased them in 4/10 .
As for my road, my neighbor did put some recycled concrete down years ago, which does give some dust in dry times. But as I say, I usually clean my wheels often when they get dirty. I haven't been waxing them as much so I guess I have to do that more.
So what Im getting is its no surprise to you all, wax them, and they are what they are. I was almost thinking maybe I sell them used as is cheap on Ebay, get what moeny I can from them , then buy some new ones??
SO the pits are normal for American Muscle wheels after a while, any other brand wheels you all have that have not pitted, or is this normal for any wheels after 4 years??

runfox, I think your idea sounds good. Get what you can for them and start over. You really won't enjoy the current ones any more.
It's disappointing to hear from slowstang305 about the other American Muscle wheels but again I wonder if the upkeep is there?? If they didn't wax their wheels either, then I'm not surprised. There are no shortcuts. Like I mentioned before I had rather cheap Enkei wheels ($100 each) on another car and they lasted fine, but they were waxed regularly and garage kept. That could be another factor.
Just more info as an example: The 'stock' chrome wheels on my T/A are known to be 'average' at best but I'm on year 13 with really no issues. There is some flaking on the inside (where the finish is made different, and you can't see anything anyway) but that is meaningless. I know I'm in the minority probably, being a show car guy, but for the money invested in these cars it is worth a few hours every month to detail the hell out of the cars we love so much. If you have to leave your car outside all the time, I feel for ya. That will take it's toll no matter what you do, especially those wet FL nights.
Best of luck with your plans and next wheels.

Well in all fairness I shouldt bad mouth American Muscle products, I have been pleased with everything I got from them so far, I love thier red brake caliper covers.
They replied back to me that they could give me a discount on a new set of wheels. So I will look into that as Im due new tires too. If I could get a discount on new rims and sell mine for anything on ebay, it might not be too expensive after all.
I have not been waxing the wheels othen, thats true, I didnt think I really needed to wax them much since they are chrome. So I guess going forward I will have to wax them more often say, once a month or more. I usally wax my car every 4-6 months and it looks good.
