I looked through some old pics and Dan is right. The mufflers are clamped so that you can replace them easily. This has to be a nod to the aftermarket, which is good for us

As you can see, its an easy swap.
Also, notice the 2.5" mandrel bent piping from the FACTORY.

I'll keep the mufflers due to sound consideration of the neighborhood around me, but these Porsche exhaust tips always struck my fancy... Since I can't yet afford a Porsche, perhaps this will be the next best thing [on my Mustang]...
Dang, just realized they probably won't fit. Different though, ain't they

Yeah, why replace the whole catback, when all you need is muffler/tip combo in one unit.
In the past the exhausts were either smaller, or 2.5" with non mandrel bent pipes (plus the mufflers were in front of the rear axle....)
Here everything from the the cats back up to the muffler is fine....all you'd need is the 'kit' which i'm sure will be a muffler/tip combo like on the stock 05.
-unclamp
-unhook
-remove
-new muffler placement
-hook
-clamp
x2
The idea of using a hacksaw to remove JUST the tip and welding it on the new muffler....uh...no

I'll be very surprised if the production cars' mufflers are clamped instead of welded. Clamps can always loosen/rattle and that is contrary to Ford's desire for this to be a more refined car.

I think they will be. Plus, it saves a lot of time/effort during assembly. The mandrel bent sections look like one piece. With the clamps, they can attached the foreward section then just clamp on the mufflers.

I'm sure its welded and installed as a unit on the line, with them being bolted to the cats. B)
