I was over at Champion Ford on I-45 in Houston this past weekend.
They had a Windveil Blue GT 5-speed with MSRP of $27K and some change.
They were telling people who asked a price of $35K.
That is just outragous!!!! Please keep from buying from price gouging dealers. I was telling everyone there that was way to much to spend for that car. $8K over MSRP. Ford needs to step in before things get out of hand.
I hope they get stuck with several cars they can't sell. I know I will not be going back there to look at anything.
Most of the dealerships I have talked to in this area are trying to sell them at MSRP, some are giving us a price break. Just look around before you sign for one of these. Just my 2 cents.

The first dealership I talked to a couple of weeks ago said $5K over MSRP. I stopped by there the other day because they a GT sitting in front and now they're saying MSRP. They've already dropped the "market adjustment".

WTH is the point of Ford's own marketing sheets comparing the Mustang-$ per HP vs competitors (GTO, 350Z, etc) when the dealers are sabotaging that????

i ordered my car from champion for in katy. i'm still waiting on it to be released (one of the 2000 GT's that is being held) and delieverd. i really hope the champion out here isn't planning out trying that too. as much as i want this car, there's no way i'm gunna pay 8k over msrp for it.

Guys, this is open market economics at it's best. Ford will not do anything about this especially when they are making there margins on this car. unlike $6000 rebates on other models (just guessing on rebate amounts)
If you took economics you know how this works, and you just have to relax. Supply is low, there are very few stangs out there, yet demand is high, a lot more people want one. Dealers keep raising the price till they have just as many people willing to buy at that price as they have mustangs. Now Ford does not make any of that ADM so they have no interest in keeping supply low. so long term supply will increase and maybe demand increases, in which case Ford will be more than happy to meet that demand with supply.
DEMAND
SUPPLY
as long as demand exist you will never get a dealer to drop an $8k mark up.
INCREASE IN SUPPLY
INCREASE IN DEMAND
so please enough of the greedy dealer threads. Nash would be very upset with everyone.
This is just life, if you owned the dealership you would do the same thing.

The idea is to KEEP IT ON THE LOT! It is a ROYAL pain in the hiney when you do not have one at a dealer. It costs a dealer MORE money to NOT have one right now then sell it, so they make it rediculous money to keep it. We keep them at MSRP and they only last a couple hours at a time, then we wait and wait and wait and call and call and call untill the next one comes it. Its driving me nuts, line up 120 of them on the side of the dealer and THEN I have something to work with. This one at a time poo aint cuttin it. Close the friggin freestar plant and retool it for mustangs.

I understand how economics work, but car dealers shouldn't question why they get lumped with attorneys and politicians as far as morals go.

Try it, there are over 30 appointments to look at our one gt tonite. It will be gone, then another 4 or 5 days for the next one. Its mind-numbing for a dealer that usuallys stocks over 100 mustangs ALL the time.

Price gouging is a touchy subject when it comes to necessities. It's hard to accuse someone of price gouging on luxuries.

There's no need to mark the price up to keep it on the lot. It's simply a matter of not selling it.

Yeah, can't it just be designated a display model and not for sale?

Nah, the demand is too high. Most test drives immediately generate orders(5 or 6 more so far today, and its tuesday), but if is someones 'dream car' we are by no means going to not let them take it home. Hybrids are the same, no mark down, no mark up, even the ONLY one in stock in a 400 dealer radius. Other local dealers have offered us over well sticker for it  . Someone wants it, they can take it home, no gimicks.
