Question

From PaperTarget (member of www.camaroz28.com and this site):

"Just read that an MCA email went out claiming over 50,000 2005 Mustang have been ordered so far (car isn't even shipping yet). Can someone else verify this, not that I don't trust MCA (Mustang Club of America).

That's a lot of Mustangs and a lot of the public hasn't even seen it yet "

Can anyone confirm this? I wouldn't doubt it.

Dan,

I think that dealers have ordered about 50,000 cars for their supplies,

you figure about 500 Ford dealers across north america, each dealer orders an average of 10 Mustangs.

Not every one of those cars has been purchased by someone yet.

I would think less than 8000 have been ordered by enthusiats like on this site.

Well, Ford had around 200,000 requests for information on '05 on their website so I guess it's possible.

In USA Today on September 1st, Ford claims there have been more than 200,000 people who have supplied personal information to get brochures. So 50,000 orders to date seems realistic.

They might be counting deposits... Just as I originally ordered an 05 Vette, some people may cancel before the car is delivered.

I pulled that number out of the air, just did it to demonstate a point.

Each dealer has allocation of 5-10 units for the first run, doing the math, that comes awfully close to 50K

OT.. I will be visiting my local Ford dealer's parts department today, I will stroll into the showroom as well just to see if I can make a deal on the spot.

500 dealers x 10 units = 5,000 total units

That range may be a little low. There are indeed nearly 5000 ford dealerships in the U.S. If dealers are truly averaging 10 cars then we'd have the 50k total. Now as for the proportion of those orders that are pre-sold, my guess would be b/w 25-40% (my own dealer was allocated 15, 5 of which are pre-sold).

Bek, Kevin, of your respective allocations, how many have been pre-sold? With those numbers we can estimate how many orders might have already gone to enthusiasts like ourselves!

Don't forget that there a various sized dealerships. Although some may get an allocation of ten (or more) there are others that only get two to start, then later (who knows how long) it's wide open. Everyone's getting different answers at this point.

I read on this site that no dealer was getting more than 2 cars initially. Where does this 10 come from?

*on topic*

I wouldn't be surprised if the 05 mustang has surpassed the 50k mark. you must remember, we now have camaro and firbird boys having interest in mustangs, thats a whole new customer market. Not to mention the ricer market that somehow has a new found respect for the 05. the interest in the 05 isnt limited to veterans like us anymore.
