For 2008 first you have to upgrade to the premium pkg.
I also heard that the option price was going to be $300 for the 3.55 gears.
A lot more than $100 for 2008.

Yeah, that's what the problem is. The difference in price is going to over $1000 since I'll have to get the premium instead of the deluxe. Errr!

Any idea why the 2007 Mustang brochure specs state “Limited-slip differential (optional on GT with automatic transmission) Would that be a option you need to pay for? I don’t know why anyone would buy an auto GT in the first place. But that’s another topic.

The 3.55s were a $87 option for my 07 GT (invoice price). If you use an A/D/X/Z-Plan, that is what you pay.

I don't want anything higher than 3.55s because of the gas mileage. I already turn 2000+ RPM at 70+ mph in 5th gear. With 3.73s, 3.90s, 4.10s, etc... it only goes higher and higher (less and less gas mileage). I currently net 19-19.5 mpg in combined city/highway driving with the stock 3.55s and am impressed.

Well, the price has gone up for 2008. The invoice price for a 3.55 on an 08 GT is 261, plus you can only get it now as part of the Premium package so that costs even more.

Maybe I'll just stick with the 3.31 since you would probably get better gas mileage with it?

3:55 even if I were to change after. Yes I think the gas mileage is better with the 3.31 gears but not that much. I had the 3.55 on an 05 and an 06. Now I have the 3.31 and when cruising on the highway instead of an easy stay in 4th, the car cries out for me to go into fifth with the 3.31's, good choice going with it. like this "waaaaaaaa"

I sure don't get Ford's logic in the decision to make the 3:55s avialable only on the Premium. I think lots of performance-oriented buyers want a more basic car - without leather, etc.

At $100, the decision was a no-brainer.

BTW, when I first test drove an 07, I was a little disappointed at the lack of "snap". Later I realized it did NOT have the 3:55s...it DOES make a difference.

Yes, I think maybe you're right, I think maybe the GT that I test drove a few years back may not have had the 3.55 gears. It didn't go as fast from 0 to 40 as I might have liked. One of the reasons I bought a V6 instead.....

Just an FYI, I have 4:30's and only run 2,200 rpm at 60 mph.
I still get get 19 to 20 mpg driving to work every day and wow the 4:30's are fun!

Ford's options for the S197 don't make sense at all. Who cares about fake plastic body cladding. I'm sure buyers wanted to see performance mods/options.

Anyhow, my Stang turns about 2200-2300 RPM at 80 mph (3.55s and 17" tires). I know my speedo reads 3 mph faster than the GPS, so take it FWIW. If I had to do it again, I'd go with 3.31s for even better gas mileage but I'm happy with the $87 3.55s. I know I'll never upgrade the gear ratio anyhow.

Thanks for the info. I think the GT I test drove a couple of years ago had the 3.31 gear as well. So this time I ordered the 3.55 just to get a little extra performance.

If you drove an auto a few years ago, it was a 3.31 axle. If it was a 05-06 Manual, it was a 3.55. There was no option until 07, when 3.31 was standard on all GT's and a 3.55 was an option on manual tranny cars only.

I'd stick with the 3.31 on the deluxe and upgrade gears later for much cheaper. I have a 07GT with the 3.55's and I wish I's just waited and gotten 4.10's

I'd go 3.55's. I got the impression after driving on the highway for 7 hours, at 70 mph with 3.55's, that it could use a slight increase in ratio. I installed 4.10's and they're great for the city but now I feel they're too high a ratio for the highway. 3.90's are probably ideal but FRPP doesn't make them. I won't buy any other brand, so 3.73's may be my alternative or I'm just going to reinstall my 3.55's. Tough decisions, for me, when the speed limits rise from 60 mph where I live to 70-75 mph crossing to the USA side of the border.

I think you may be disappointed if you get the 3.31's and try to go up against the 3.55 equipped stangs. It all depends on what your plans are for your car.

Yes, I was afraid of being disappointed, so I ordered the 3.55's

Thanks for the reply!
