3.55 Axle

Hi guys!

I need some advice. I'm thinking about ordering an 08 GT, but I'm not sure if I want to get the 3.55 limited slip axle since you have to order the GT Premium, when I could probably make due with the GT Deluxe.

I know the 3.55 axle is quicker, but is it that much quicker then the stock 3.31 axle? In other words, would it be worth it?

Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can offer!

Stick ='s 3:55. Auto ='s 3:31.

Get the 3:55's. because when your ready. and you will be, you will want 3:90's or 4:10's. The 3:55 is a good begining.

If you're eventually going to go with 3:90s or 4:10s why spend the extra dough just to rip them out? I doubt you'll really notice the difference unless you like to get on it often. Even if you did want the 3:55s, but don't want a premium it would likely be less to just have a set swapped in. You can buy them for next to nothing from folks who've upgraded.

The 3:55 is a limited slip. If you stay stock you loose the limited slip.

That is incorrect the GT gets a LS regardless.

Correct, V6's do not get a limited slip axle. And no matter the gear ratio the GT does get limited slip.

You could get a cheap set of 3.55 gears from a GT that took them out, but getting them installed will cost you well over $100, and even then there is no guarantee they will be quiet, not wear, etc. Gears are very hard to install correctly and takes a very skilled person that knows what he/she is doing.

It's not THAT hard. I've done many sets over the years and I'm not even an automotive tech. I'm just a dumn engineer. I had one failure on my Camaro when the pinion nut, of all things, broke. The dollars we're talking aren't the $100 for the 3.55 option, we're talking the jump to Premier trim and all that goes with it.

That's true about installing them, but how much faster would a 3.55 be over a 3.31, say like 0 to 60?

I'm not sure I'd want to upgrade everything just to get the 3.55 diff. I'm not sure it's worth it?

dude there is really nothing to upgrade, all it is is just changeing out the ring and pinion which most auto shops can do within a few hours, nothing big and it is worth it, unless you want to swap out to some 4.10, 3.90, or 3.73 gears later.

What I meant was you have to upgrade to a Premium GT from a Deluxe to get the 3.55 with the 2008 model year.

I like the feel of the 3.55 on my 05 which was the only option that I knew of. I have driven an 07? with 3.31 and it didn't feel as good as mine.

FYI. The 3.55 gears went up to $300 for the 08 instead of $100.

I have it, 100 bucks is a cheap option that won't mean much to your overall cost in the long run so do it.

In 2008, you cannot get these as an option for a GT Deluxe, so it's not as cheap, since you have to pay the extra for the GT Premium (mentioned above).
