Question 2009 E Brake Popped

Morning Peeps.. I'm new here. Forgive me if I am not following some rules or whatever.

I have a 2009 GT 5 speed Black Jack Roush Mustang. 39k miles.

I was reaching over to get something off of the passenger floor when my emergency brake POPPED down. Now it will pop down right after I set it, randomly. I've read up on it and I see things about cables and about 'adjusting' it. I've also seen someone post "Reset it by pulling up ebrake while in reverse." ???

First: How do I 'adjust' it and is it fairly easy? I assume this would be the first step to check?

Second: Do I need to lift it up and look at the cables for breakage?

Third: Does that reverse thingy even make sense??

Thanks all!!

I've also heard something where the earlier s197's had a handle breakage problem. IIRC, there is an updated replacement handle assembly. A friend of mine had to replace hers when she had the brakes done and cables.

I don't recall ever hearing about any issues like that. The parking brake is known to freeze in cold/wet weather, but that sounds different. If you always set it to that same "click", then perhaps over time you have stripped that "tooth."

You may be able to adjust it, so as to avoid that particular tooth. I believe the adjustment screw is inside the little panel in the armrest console. The little cover should just pull off. Although it may be easier to just take the whole center piece off, so that you can get a good look at it and better access to it.
