2006 V8 Non-GT Mustang?
Do you think Ford will possibly offer a non gt V8 next year. I like the idea of a V8 with a V6 look without the GT extras like foglights and different rear and front fasicas and rocker panels....hey it would be like the old days when this was a regular option...whatdya think?? B)
I highly doubt it,
The reason all the GT parts were added was that GT owners wanted their cars to be differntiated from the V6 models.
As for a bare-bones GT with all the V6 goodies, that could be a cool idea, if the demand is there.

I wouldn't put any money on it. Even if the GT's weren't selling like crazy, which they are, I doubt you would see an LX model.
Ford's "Mustang System" of V6 (deluxe and premium), V8 (deluxe and premium), Special Edition (well recently) and Cobra has just made too much sense and too much money for them. I don't think they have any plans to change it.

Oooh! A notch back? Yeah! Even though the quarter windows would be lost, I'd like the extra head room in the back...
White with red? That'd be close to my dear departed Muskrat. I'd buy one faster.

GT for the mustang by definition means V8
unless u mean like a Boss302 or something like that
Well Jay it hasn't always been that way. In 1966 you had a choice of motors from an I6 to 4 different V8's if you count the Shelby motor or the K motor GT.
The original Fox body had 2 different V8's available in notchback or hatchback.
I've had both!

I agree, I'm actually surprised at how many options we do have. The Honda Pilot I bought earlier this year only had 3 trim levels and there was no mixing and matching separate options. If you wanted certain options you had to bump up to the trim level that had the option you wanted.
The only upside is that it's easier to find the vehicle you want on a dealer lot.
I've got my Mustang so optioned out, with my perfect color scheme, it's nearly impossible to find the exact car on a dealer lot somewhere.

Think of it like this. V8 power for V6 price. Well, kinda. The LX's didn't come with the asthetic upgrades, just the powertrain upgrades. So for those who valued "go" far more than "show" it was a great deal. Similar to the last gen of Firebirds. The Firebird had a V6, then there was the Formula, in similar trim to the Firebird, but with all the powertrain options of the top dog Trans Am.

I just bought my bitter half an'05 Outback Limited VDC and the only option was in paying for it.
It would be kinda fun for the more competetive of us to be able to buy a stripped down body with a performance V-8 (short of the turn-key racer) like we used to do in the old days. Heck, it might even bring back memories for us "senior" types.
I would like to see a true fastback similar to the late '60's models. Nothing wrong with the coupe we have now but a fastback ending in a Ducktail would be a dream come true.
I love the lines on this car:

Unfortunately, I don't know if we'll ever see the true fast back again... too many people complain about the visibility problems that Ford might not feel that it would be a big seller. I know there are those of us that would buy it in a heart beat, and it might even shut the people up that complain that they're disappointed in the '05, but as far as the new customers....
Personally, I'd like to see a hatchback like the Fox bodies (or my Probe GT) as they are an incredible blend of sleekness and practicality, a real case of having your performance cake and eating it too. And with proper engineering, they can be stiff, light and tight too.
I never particularly liked the notchbacks as they look just a bit too generically (is that a word?) sedanish in profile and less distinctively Mustang to my eye. But to each his own, though I very highly doubt well see a notchback S-197. Indeed, I hope not as I would rather see any developmental money that might go into such a thing go to more performance oriented ends.
As for an "LX" type stripped down V8? Perhaps, though as noted, the last attempt at that, the GTS I believe, didn't go over particularly well, even if the earlier V8 LXs did for some reason. The stylistic difference between the V6 and GT really aren't that great in terms of a parts count, and thus presumptive manufacturing costs and lessened sticker price. There are more engineering changes in the chassis and whatnot, but I wouldn't really want to do without them on the more powerfull V8 anyway.
Perhaps a decontented (of interior and comfort items) might drop the price a hair, but enough to make the effort worthwhile for Ford??? I think that was the downfall of the GTS is that the SN95 body/interior really couldn't be pared down as much, with a commensurate reduction in price and weight, as the earlier LX V8s and thus, that model floundered.

Expect a Mustang based Cougar sometime to wake-up the sleeping L-M line. Somebody did a great chop of one, I think on this site.
