2006 Mustang Press Release
Thanks for the info Brad. Any word on the new 18 inch wheel options. As far as I understand (and some of this came from another post) there will be the 17" Bullitts (same as '05), the 17" Upgrade (same as '05), 18" Fanblades (from the concept, new for '06) and 18" Bullitts (new for '06).
My question is this, is it true the Bullits are going to be more 3D (some felt the '05 Bullitts were kinda 2D compared to the ones on the SN95 Mustangs) and what finish are the Fanblades going to have (chrome or brushed aluminum)? Thanks.

I like it. I can't wait to see real pics. I think lot's of V6ers will pick up this option. I think it's great for them and might take some strain off the GT.

For whatever reason Ford does not want to significantly increase V8 production, so they are trying to make the V6 more attractive. What Ford should have done with the Pony Package was give it the GT brakes, GT Traction Lock rear end and a HP boost.
At least the build plan for 2006 is 38% GTs verses the original 2005 build plan which had only 32% GTs.
I've been looking around for info! I was going to order an 06 coupe SONIC BLUE . But good news I like the pony package. Was going to get Bullits anyway and anti lock brakes. I have 2 questions 1. is the spoiler in the pony package cuz i couldnt find it listed. 2. does anyone have pics showing sonic blue and vista blue. Thanks
it's interesting, to me anyway, that the real news on the pony package is what you don't see that's probably the most important part of the upgrade: the rear sway bar...that, coupled with the upgraded rims and tires will do wonders for the handling..the v6 is already a nice, balanced ride, with the addition of rear bar, the cornering will be a little flatter and with the wider rubber, it will stick better in the corners. now, THATS something to rave about...the fogs are just window dressing. it's what's UNDER the skin that counts. jackg 90seville 97k

Brads timeline is the best, practically anything you want to know about any model year is in there.
overall I like it, but why put the bullitts on it?
This just make GT's with bullitts less unique.
if it ends up rare to see a pony package, then no big deal
Ford did this in the early 90's with the 10 hole 15x8 alum GT & 5.0 LX rims, in the end they ended up on the everyday granny 4 cyl Mustangs and people never looked at that wheel with the same respect as the 5.0 days

I really like the new grill. I think the V6 will roll out the door faster than ever. The GT's will still be the hot ticket but this V6 will really appeal to everyone that wants an modestly priced fun car.
BTW I just rented a V6 Vert at Hertz at LAX. What a nice spunky car. It didn't feel like my GT but it drove beautifully and it was pretty quick for freeway and around town driving.
The big gappy grill needed something to fill it. This is a great looking car. Ford does it again.
Will we be reading that 4 out of every five Sports Cars is a Mustang.

im loving it. plus the addition of the sway bars realy gets me excited. this is kind of what i wanted orignally, a V6 with slightly upped perf (handling in this case) for a modest price. sweet!

But as you noted, Ford has a history of doing this, taking parts from higher models (hood scoops, side scoops, spoilers, wheels, etc. ) and moving them down to the lower models. This is most likely a concious decision by the marketing department to make the Ford you just purchased look out of date from the latest model. This way those who want to have the latest and greatest have to buy again.
The auto makers do the same thing with model names.
Back in the late 50s, the "Fairlane" was the top of the line Ford model
Then the "Fairlane" became a cheap full-size Ford when the Galaxie was the new top line model.
Next "Fairlane" was moved to the new Ford mid-size model.
Then the top mid-size Ford Model became the Torino and the once vaunted "Fairlane" name was reduced to the cheapest fleet stripper model of the mid-size ford.

Chazcron was the first to do it on April 17, 2004. His chop was great.

the reason you see the same equipment on both models is cost and marketing strategy...it cost money to design another wheel individual for just the 4.0, it increases the unit cost of the item...that's one reason why the mustang is such a great deal price-wise. jackg 90seville 97k
Customers who order Mustang GT with the larger wheels and tires receive recalibrated shocks and struts to compensate for the unique handling characteristics of Mustang’s shod with 18-inch rubber.
Mustang GT customers can now choose from the following four wheel and tire combinations:
* Standard P235/55 ZR17 Pirelli "PZERO" tires on painted aluminum wheels
* Optional P235/55 ZR17 Pirelli "PZERO" tires on bright machined-aluminum wheels
* Optional P235/50 ZR18 BFGoodrich "Touring TA" tires on polished aluminum wheels
* Optional P235/50 ZR 18 BFGoodrich "Touring TA" tires on premium aluminum wheels
Ummm I see the change in tire size, but what exactly do they mean by recalibrated shocks and struts, I'm thinking this is BS. Can someone confirm?

the exclusivty and snobbishness or as you call it "respect" is a mentality I dont understand...why cant a lesser model have some of the same parts as the high and mighty GT????
