Just found out that my 05 GT was built today 10-7-07 and happy it was today instead of Friday. I work by one of the "rail heads" that BEK is talking about,I'am going to swing by there in the morning to take a look. I was told that it would take 10 days to deliver once it left the factory.

This lack of information seems pretty lame, in today's age.

A friend of mine asked me when I expected delivery, I said not a clue (my car has been produced).

He was laughing, and related that with his order of an Audi, information was tracked, and relayed to him at every step... production, loading to the ship, coming off the ship, the distribution center and trucking to the dealer.

Does make you wonder what is going on.
Tell your friend that Audi sells less than 200,000 vehicles in the US each year while Ford sells 4,000,000 per year, only 20 times as many vehicles. Also, the 2005 Mustang is a brand new model in a new plant. I'm sure Audi has the same uncertanty when they are trying to launch a new model.

Someone indicated in the forum that Ford's tracking is antiquated, and they are to change. Typically, the greater number of units allows the cost of technology to be spread over a greater base of business; resulting in a lower cost per unit. The car did happen to be the new A4 convertible, which was a new launch.

BEK, thanks for your post on Ford's shipping process. I am curious, are the rail heads a regional thing ? If so, I bet they have some huge lots to stage the cars in. I also like how you can still rely upon your relationship with the shipping coordinator to get a car or two delivered quicker. Much better than trying to convince a computer lol. Thanks again B)

Yup, the rail heads are giant, regional lots. Trains and railroad and cars. I think Mid Atlantic mostly uses Baltimore. It's awesome seeing thousands of cars going in and out.

One of the regionals in Baltimore is on Rt 175 and 95. I see tons of new cars on carriers coming out of there all the time. My nieghbor is an engineer for Chessie and he gave me this info. So I take that way to work. He said the lot is huge!!!!!!

Drove into AAI yesterday. Didn't see any on a truck, train.. or pulled by horse and buggy.. not saying that any have been shipped, but didn't notice any activity today.

I did, how ever... notice that there are TONS more 05's that are already made.

The holding areas that the out of town people saw... is NOTHING compared to now. There's 05's allllllllllllll over behind the gates... it's insane. And they updated one of the signs on the building...

That's near the main enterance... NOTHING compared to other areas.. that stretch waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back. Looks like parking at the airport.

I just received a call from dealer and although my car was built on 9/28, he said that my car is being held at the plant...god only knows why!

I spoke with the guys at the motor freight company, who are responsible for transporting my car from the railhead to the dealer, and they told me:

"AAI has not put any '05 Stangs on railcars yet for shipment. They told us it would be at least (2) weeks before we will be recieveing them."

I hope this is untrue, but I doubt it...

EDIT: At least this pertains to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

We live in Topeka and my wife has been emailing dealers in the Kansas City area about the 05. She had a message last night from Ann at Extreme Ford in Overland Park saying they would have a blue 05 GT on the lot today. I just called and spoke with someone at Extreme and she said "Ann would know better than I would when we would be getting one but it's not here yet. We were told at the beginning of the week we had one on a truck heading our way"

If anyone is in the KC area maybe they can keep an eye out for this one. I just want to know one is actually ANYWHERE at a dealer!

Where are you getting this 'data' from, Twister?
From my brother-in-law who works at Fords (Dearborn). Maybe the cars on the lot he is talking about were the first ones built before they added the weld on the line or something, but theres a lot of cars that aren't shipping yet. Down here (Florida) I was told by 2 dealers that they don't expect to see Mustangs till the end of the month at best. There's NO Freestyles and only a few 500's. I'll call my brother-in-law tonight and find out more.

That is just too cool that you can track your car that way. That has to be some confirmation for you since you are out of the states. Glad you are able to stay in the loop. Good Luck to you
