If I was getting one, I'd probably stick with the stock GT rims. I really like them. There a nice change from the bullitts.

if its $400/rim that would be like $1600 a set. not getting the upgrades may significantly lower the price of the car if u plan on getting the car with the interior upgrade & accent packages and shaker 1000

3 reasons...
1) I know Infinity, I like Infinity... (ironic that my screen name is pronounced infinite, but it has nothing to do with the speakers...)
2) I don't like the subwoofer location on the Shaker system.
3) Self intallation of a $1000 vs. factory intallation of a $1200... I can use the $200 towards something else then, like my mags

Hopefully, the rear wheel wells are big enough to put some wider wheels/tires on... The trunk seems small enough.

The upgrade rims were slightly over $300 on the military order plan. I go the redfire GT and think they'll look good on it. Although - truth be told, I'll probably end up buying wider tires and different rims within the year.....just waiting to see what all becomes available in the first 6 months of 05.

I like the delayed 18-inchers best. The 17 inchers are a bit flat and plain to my eye while the Bullitt wheels are just too retro, bordering on "repro" if you will (been there, done that, time for fresher thinking).

I actually like the design of the stock V6 wheels, which evoke some of the mid-60's Shelby designs.

I think the wheels will be one of the first things I change, preferably to 18" wheels.

I like the standard wheels too, but they just don't "fit" the car. I not talking about just looks, I mean they look undersized on the '05 Mustang, tucked too far in under the fenders.

I too, ordered my '05 GT in black with bullitt wheels. I felt that combo looked best IMO

When I first saw pix of the 2005 Mustang in its final form, I went online to find a Bullitt style rim (mind you, I hadn't been crusing this forum, and I didn't know that they even called them that, etc.)

Then I find out the base wheel is exactly the wheel I wanted. Sweet!

Too bad it wasn't in an 18, but what the heck.

If I move to 18's down the road, I am going to try and find very lightweight 18's, that I happen to like. Looks are important, but if it looks good but weighs too much, it's not on my list.

I can't afford to buy a 05 Mustang I might be able to afford the V6, but I already got a 95 V6 which I don't plan on getting rid of, so if I get a new mustang, it has to have a V8. Anyway, I'll be happy with a Fire Red car with no other options.

I agree. Though I like the bullitt rims, they are on EVERY stang. Not that its a bad thing (retro and all) but I really want something that is new/fresh. The 18's on the showcar look really nice. I'm also curious to see what the aftermarket comes out with for the 05.

Either way, I'm dead set on 18's for the summer and a nice set of wide tires (255's min).

Yea, too bad the dealer didn't know a darn thing about the car when I ordered it. Thank God I did my research... he wrote down the wrong order codes TWICE while I was there... *sigh* oh well... I'm gonna go the winter with the bullitts, then see if Ford has a price on the 18"s otherwise I'm gettin mags... or I might get mags anyways.. I did a cheap photochop with mags on the new stang and they look pretty nice.

Personally, none of the rims I have seen so far do much if anything for me.

Step 1 is the stereo, because I'd rather spend $1000 on an Infinity system, than $1200 on 'Audiophile'
Infinity isn't a bad brand, but definately over-priced. You can get A LOT more bang for your buck going with Fosgate or better yet Image Dynamics. In all my years competing, I have never seen an Infinity sub system do anything.

In might actually need 19" wheels. The 2005 Mustang uses a taller tire to fill the wheel wells. This is the reason most like the 18" wheels better, they fit the car appropriately.

Here are some numbers to chew on:

2004 Mustang GT = 245/45/17. Tire = 25.7" Diameter on 17" wheel.

Now we want to know how tall the sidewall is with the tire mounted on the wheel.

Tire = 25.7" - 17" wheel = 8.7" Total Sidewall height / 2 = 4.35" Tall Sidewall, area between the wheel and the ground.

2005 Mustang GT = 235/55/17. Tire = 27.1" Diameter on 17" wheel.

Tire = 27.1" - 17" wheel = 10.1" Total Sidewall / 2 = 5.05" Tall Sidewall.

This is a .70", or almost 3/4", taller sidewall than a 2004 Mustang with 17's. This will equate to much more sidewall flex when pushing the car into a turn. To make this more counter productive, the new Mustang weighs almost 200lbs more than the 2004 Mustang, now running on a narrower tire. I've said it before, but this would would be like placing 225/55/16" wheels and tires on a Cobra. Imagine trying to put 300hp+ down to the ground on a 16" tire only 225mm wide. The current 2004 Mustang has a full 1" wider tire than a 225/55/16 on a 7.5" wide wheel.

Now imagine a 19" tire, same height as the 17" tire, 27.1" diameter.

Tire = 27.1" - 19" wheel = 8.1" Total Sidewall / 2 = 4.05" Tall Sidewall.

This is only 1/3 inch shorter sidewall than the current 2004 Mustang with 245/45/17 tires. Lastly, lets do an 18" tire.

Tire = 27.1" - 18" wheel = 9.1" Total Sidewall / 2 = 4.55" Tall Sidewall.

This is still 1/5 inch taller sidewall than a 2004 Mustang with 245/45/17 tires and wheels. Again, remember the new Mustang weighs MORE, and more side wall is not necessarily good for handling, but ride quality will improve.

For the 2005 Mustang to be EQUAL to the 1994-2004 Mustang with 17" wheels in terms of sidewall height, you would need a slightly shorter tire, 26.7" diameter on an 18" wheel. This tire would be the 245/45/18. This tall of a tire looks very narrow in 18" spec, so I would prefer a 255/45/18 for the front on an 8" or 8.5" wheel, then a 285/40/18 for the rear on a 9.5" to 10" wheel.
