2005 Mustang Convertible Unveiled!

The thing that really angers me is how they took the antenna off for all the promo pics. If they think the antenna is so darn ugly they shouldn't have put one on in the first place. They are almost acknowledging that their antenna design stinks.

My own personal horror story involving antennas and my '96 GT: I went to a car wash one day and the attendant used a monkey wrench to undo the antenna before my car entered the wash. I wasn't paying attention (I know, second mistake, after bringing the car to a wash) so by the time he handed me the antenna, the damage was done: he scratched all of the paint off the hex-bottom antenna with his wrench! Yikes! I was mad, and he looked at me like I offended HIM!
If they must put a fixed mast antenna on the car, at least make it so it doesn't scratch easily. And oh yeah, why do they omit the antenna from all of their promotional pics? Glad you brought this up. Sorry for ranting...

Man that $5000 convertible option is expensive. I think the 2004 was $3000. Way out of my price range. Hard top for me. If you want to make your car stand out, put $5000 in performance mods in it.
I'm annoyed they show the 18" wheels that are not availiable. The thing that really angers me is how they took the antenna off for all the promo pics. The fabric top also seals better than did those of previous models and it affords superior rearward visibility
Since when does fabric mean vinyl? Vinyl is not a fabric. Bummer. Car looks great. I'm not at all disappointed that I ordered a Vert. The pricing is a little more than I thought it would be. I figured $4,000 more. Looking forward to production.

You guys sound like you will be driving in the INDY or something like that.
Its a ragtop. Made to cruise on beautifull sunny days. Not beating it up to see if the frame can take it. The way you treat your ride will reflect on its stability in the future. Abuse it and it will abuse you. Been waiting for this a loooong time. My order is in, now the wait.
Brad, hats off to ya. Great thread!!!

AMEN, my brother.
Order guides are available. I just ordered my vert GT today.
$30,550 Base for GT Premium.
$33,605 w/most goodies except Shaker 1000.
$24,695 Base for V6 Premium
$29,025 ditto above.
Ordered IUP, the screen showed "18G not avaiable on all builds. Recommend 18R." Submitted order anyway and order was accepted.

Major options available on all Mustang GT Coupe models include an interior upgrade package ($450), interior color enhancement package ($175), 5-speed automatic transmission ($995), side air bags ($370), 17-inch bright machined aluminum wheels ($195), active anti-theft system ($255), Shaker 1000 audio system ($1,295) and a convertible soft boot for $195.
Who wants to pay $195 for a boot? Boxsters, 911's, and Vipers have
Z fold tops and no boots...what's the deal?

Convertible looks very nice. The 18" fanblades look even better.
Man, I wish they had these out for the spring so I could buy a set or at least have the option of buying a set. I'm also looking for pics of people with 18" torque thrusts just to see how those would look. Keeping my options open right now.

Is it me or does that stacked up top in the rear look hopelessly outdated? Especially with the cover on it. I like the Z-fold idea but just doesn't retract deep enough, it's sitting way too high. The press pix that were leaked earlier hide that pretty cleverly but the new side shots are more revealing of what it really looks like. Disappointing to say the least. Might be less obvious with charcoal interior though.

Ditto - 1st thing I noticed was how high the the stacked top is......much more of the top showing than on my '00GT vert. Nice car though and Ford should do very well with them....but after owning two Stang verts a 95 & '00 - I think the coupe is the sexy model.....the roofline and rear quarter windows on the '05 make this model and although I'm ususally a vert buyer - I'm very happy with the coupe!!! Wouldn't mind checking out those wheels - if they come in 18" version...
