We always do. I've heard of some changing it at 50 and then 500.

This is what I plan on doing. I'm going to buy some of these to put on the oil filter. And use this method to break in my motor.

And after 100 miles I'll change the oil, then at 500, then at 3,000.

Anyone know Ford's recommendation? I wouldn't get too aggressive. They usually fill the crankcase with break-in oil that's fortified with additional additives not found on off the shelf oils.

I changed mine at 650 miles and then I changed it at 3,650 miles (I will continue to change it every 3K miles...out of habit)...

At least one person was paying attention! The truth is today's motor really don't need a break in. Everything is so tight and seals so well it's not really necessary. I'll bet there isn't any break in recommendation at all. The comments above are correct however regarding the switch to synthetic. You do want to give everything a chance to seat 100% before switching. Synthetic is so slick and effective that it will literally prevent rings from sealing properly.

You should always run it pretty hard when new though.

Agreed. It's best to use like you intend to use it from day one.

I beleive I read some where in the owners manual that the break in period is about 1000 miles. As far as changing the oil at 500 miles, WOW, not sure about that but whatever works. I have a little over 500 miles right now, I plan on changing it somewhere around 1500 and then again 5000.

I was gonna say that, but I didn't want to upset anybody.

The filter is super glued on from the factory. I took a screwdriver and a hammer to it in order to remove the filter. Good luck with the oil change.

Exactly what I'm doing ... except I'm using the ForceField magnetic filter.

So far so good ... I saw what looked like glitter in the oil when I had it changed at ~50 miles.
