1st oil change...500 miles
#21
I put mine away after 200+ miles for the first winter I had her. After she came out to play in april or so I took her right in for the first oil change. Every three months during the spring/summer or whenever she comes out of the garage for storage on mine, so anywhere from around 150miles to 1500 miles on the way out.

That's another reason to change the oil early...that darn factory filter is put on without any oil on the gasket...makes it even harder to remove (the first time)...I had to use the persuader (oil change pliers with teeth)...now it's a piece of cake. The longer that oil filter sits in there, the harder it will be to remove if you wait until 3K miles...just my opinion. But I'm sticking with that semi-syn Motorcraft 5w-20...good stuff.

Exactly what I'm doing ... except I'm using the ForceField magnetic filter.

Here is the program I'm following. I think it's fairly common.
500 miles - 1st oil change - same as factory
1,000 miles - 2nd oil change - same as factory
3,000 miles - Mobil 1 plus Ford racing filter
3,000 mile intervals after that.
I'm at 1,900 now and I would like to get Mobil 1 in it as soon as I can.

I beleive I read some where in the owners manual that the break in period is about 1000 miles. As far as changing the oil at 500 miles, WOW, not sure about that but whatever works. I have a little over 500 miles right now, I plan on changing it somewhere around 1500 and then again 5000.

Based on the results we've got here, we'd recommend 8,000 miles between oil changes on an engine that uses no oil at all, perhaps 10,000 miles on an engine that uses some oil, and 15,000 miles or beyond with a filter change every 5,000 miles. This, of course, isn't any kind of guarantee, and you must evaluate for yourself what your engine requires. One thing we're pretty sure about though: 3,000-mile intervals is a huge waste of resources.

At least one person was paying attention! The truth is today's motor really don't need a break in. Everything is so tight and seals so well it's not really necessary. I'll bet there isn't any break in recommendation at all. The comments above are correct however regarding the switch to synthetic. You do want to give everything a chance to seat 100% before switching. Synthetic is so slick and effective that it will literally prevent rings from sealing properly.
For my sely I changed a 500 ,2500. 5xxx, and at 8000. When I reach 10000 miles I will switch to synthetic.
