1st Night with Mustang!
I also instructed the salesman NOT TO DRILL my front bumper.... When I picked my car up, there were 2 screws already installed in the bumper. He said that the inspection mechanic would not pass it without mounting provisions for a front plate (required here in VA)
First, if I ever buy a car in Virgina, I'll show up with some double sided sticky tape and/or velcro to get it off the lot without scres INTO the front bumper.
Secondly, I'm really glad I live in Tennessee and we don't require front plates.

don't think you will win that battle, california dmv code requires 2 plates on any vehicle, which includes a front plate

Is it also the dealership's responsibility to make sure she pays the yearly tax on the car (well, they have one here in VA)? I don't think so.
If she said no plate, they should not put it on there.

So just because someone else doesn't have a front plate on their car make it right for you to not have one? Sounds like something people tell the cop when stopped for speeding...'but officer I was going with the flow of traffic, why did you stop ME???'. He's going to say two things...'I can't stop everyone' and 'you don't have a front plate'.

Speeder: Yessir.
Officer: Do you ever catch a fish?
Speeder: Why yes, occasionally I do.
Officer: Ever catch them all?

The reason CA requires a front plate is for Photo Entrapment.
I got one several years ago, Christmas Eve, running around at the last minute and I made a left turn up Aero Drive in San Diego. I was just following others, but facing the bright setting sun I couldn't see that my arrow had changed from yellow to red.
(SMILE you're on California unCandid Camera!) The ticket was expensive too.

I think the best way to handle the photo ticket is to take the money that you owe them for the ticket, lay it on the table, take a polariod of it, and send them that.

The dealer really convinced me that it would detract from the car's appearance if the plate was installed, so I'm going to roll the dice and keep it in my trunk.

Well, I just got off the phone with Galpin, and I worked out a deal. The deal is,... instead of having them replace my front fascia, they are going to give me all my exterior upgrades (roush fascia, roush spoiler, street scenes side skirts and rear valance, and saleen hood) for their direct price. I tried to have them install all of this right of the bat, but I couldn't get qualified for it since it brought my car's price up to $41,000. So I will keep the plate on for now, and the dealer won't be padding the numbers on my upgrades. Pretty good deal!
The won't be losing money, and I will be saving money.
P.S. jfrayzier were did you come up with that, I'm talking about taking the photo of the money, It's funny and ironic because my criminology teacher talked about doing that same thing.

You can buy this spray on the web that keeps them from being able to read the plate when the photo is taken. It's not illegal because nothing physical is covering the plate and the plate looks perfectly normal unless a picture is taken of it. Kinda cool, saw it on the news, too.

I remember reading about someone that did that...got a photo-ticket in the mail, so they took a picture of the money and mailed it in.
A few weeks later the person got another letter from the Courts...this one with a picture of handcuffs.
The person mailed the money to the Court the next day.

My front plate is in my trunk... and there it shall stay until I'm forced to install it.

Hear, hear! :tex:
While driving around with the paper temporary plates (about two weeks after getting the car) I passed a cop directing traffic... traffic was crawling so he asked me where my front plate was. I told him I was still using the paper, temporary ones (on the back window) because I hadn't recieved the permanant ones. He waved me on.
At that point, I decided to put the real plates on the front as soon as I got them, because I just don't want to deal with those F...ers. Screw them all, I just don't want any reason to have to talk to them, I can't stand looking at cops, let alone talking to them, so front plate it is.
The whole mouting scheme is totally lame... slap the plate on there an drill over sized sheet metal screws through the plate and into the plastic bumper. I ended up getting some bolts with some decorative heads, biug rubber washers and nylock nuts. I had to unbolt the bumpers and slide them forward/backwards to get clearance...
Fortunatly, I asked the dealer not to install a front plate and they were smart enough not to.
Front license plate laws suck...
Photo radar sucks...
Getting a ticket in the mail sucks...
I'm looking into some kind of anti-photo radar plate cover. Where can I get a glasses/nose/mustache disguies?
Anyone have any ideas?

You know, for the first month or two I was all stressed about putting the front plate on, I'm not going to do, blah blah blah. After EVERYDAY being asked where my front plate was by the base guards I realised it wasn't a big deal to put it on. Now after 10 months with it on, the car still runs great, looks great, is just great over all.
State law says I gotta have a plate on the front, what makes me more special than anyone else? If I don't like it I could move to Iowa, but that would be worse than putting a couple of holes in the front bumper.

I live in California and I have a personal plate so I want it on the front and the back. Why get it if you ain't gonna show it? I put the plate directly on the bumper but used 2 smaller screws. NOT license plate screws. The plate looks great, stands out from all the other Mustangs out there.
