My 06 GT makes a wheezing, almost whistle sound from the engine under hard acceleration. It sounds a lot like a supercharged engine. Is this common with the V8? I am wondering if their may be a vacuum leak.

 

Is your temperature gauge changing? A vaccuum leak can make the engine run hot if they are severe enough--more air being sucked into the engine. How bad is the wheezing? It could be that the sound of the intake sucking in air at WOT is just loud. I'm sure a few GT owners will jump in with some more helpful advice/experience

 

I am familiar with the great intake sound, and the wheezing is in addition to that. The temp seems normal at all times. I drive at least 50 miles every work day with no other problems noted, and the gas mileage is even pretty good at about 21mpg.

 

Did you use any gear besides "D"?

yea my car makes the same noise too, like it has a turbo inside. I think it's normal.

 

OK, I agree it does sound like a turbo. Even the salesman said something to that effect when I was test driving the car before I bought it

 

My car also has a 'whooshing' WOT intake sound. I kind of like the noise.

Yup, same thing, even more pronounced months ago when the C&L went in. Sounds sweet doesn't it !!

The 05 auto I had made the same sounds you're describing. It didn't bother me, since it sounded like a muted gear drive. If it had of been much louder I wouldn't have cared for the noise.
