06 auto/newbie- what to expect ET/MPH?
were talking about taking the mustangs out to the strip tomorrow night- my moms been in town helping this past month with the kids (my wife had heart attack/bypass 6 wks ago- thankfully doing great now), and Mom's never been to the track before, always wanted to try...the wifes OK with Mom flogging her 07 V6 a bit, just wondered what to expect from a stock v6 and a first time driver...and If I should give Mom a second or three headstart
edit: title supposed to say 'v6' not '06'...oops

Definitely let her win one. Spin your tires a lot on purpose, that'll get her to thinking she beat ya. It'll get her hooked for sure, and then you'll have to let her play with your GT.
Dunno about the times... I expect a bit slower than the GT of course. Probably high 15s or thereabouts...

that was fun :)
five-oh Brian was pretty close on the mph, Mom ran a 16.24 @86 MPH... I went with her on her first run, she staged, did everything right, but then when I was up against her (my 10 yr old was in the car with her, I had 2 other kids with me) she over shot the staging, my tree came down, so we both backed up and restaged- I think everyone was laughing pretty hard...I had told her just go whenever(try at third amber...) but I'd give her a 2 second headstart after whenever she decided to go- one thousand one, one thousand two, launched at 5000(normally would go at 2500 max) spun the living crap out of it, the kids with me were screaming with excitement, Mom said my oldest was screming 'go grandma go!' the whole track...at the end she beat me by .07 seconds...that was a blast.
the funniest thing - picking up my slip, the kid at the track was laughing, shaking his head' ummm- you had a TWO SECOND reaction time???' I explained it was my Mom driving my wifes car, and said I'd give her a 2 second headstart, he thought it was funny as heck that it was such a close finish... especially considering our Laurel and Hardy routine out of the gate.
Well, Mom can now say she's 'been there/done that' and suprisingly, the wifes mustang made it onto the track -kids had been beggin to 'race' since she got it- but I know one thing , we'll all remember tonight for a long time

Sounds like you guys had a blast. I'm surprised the track allowed kids to ride along (our local tracks mandate 16+ years old minimum). And, like houtex said, a video would have been priceless.
Dragway 42 allows passengers for cars over 14 seconds on test and tune nights only, long as everyones buckled up - break 14 you gotta wear a helmet and no passengers rest of the night. Spin a bit extra it runs a 14.0~14.2 with the kids on board- plus the sound of the tires squealling really gets them wound up
the first time we went last year, the track guy was talking to my boys (8/9/11 at the time) about going down the track with his dad when he was 6 years old- still remembers it...the kids really get a kick out of it, and I'd have to think as long as theres no risk of parts flying from the guy in the next lane, its probably safer than most on-ramps around here...
I put a copcar type video recorder in the trunk last fall, but still never got the cameras hooked in yet- just for the dragstrip...maybe next year.
