What's your end goals. Do you want to build the motor or just do a stock rebuild?

At minimun, I would do a full rebuild and pi swap before you boost it. Next step up, forged bottom end, trick flow heads, and then boost

And if you really want to get fancy,, track down a Teskid block and build that. I forget if your is a Cobra or not, so you might already have one.

Yeah it is a cobra, 146k on the car. Only mods at the moment are a cai, catback exhaust, and a diablo tune.

Let's say I went with just a stock rebuild, would I need a new tune? The tune in the car I have no information about it cause the guy I bought it from didn't mention what kind of tune it was.

The head gasket is leaking oil but only when the car is running.

Need a whole rebuild for a oil leak!?!? I think you might want to check the valve cover gasket

Well there is metal in the oil so the mechanic told us the engine was getting to the end of its life and so far the head gasket has broke twice now.

might just be cheaper to find a compay and purchase a shortblock/longblock. You can get them for a good price now, and save you some headache on the rebuild. And if there is metal in the oil, you will have to find where the shavings are coming from. Could be machine costs for the block, heads etc. and when all is said and done would have been cheaper to purchase a shortblock. I got mine from MMR, and its been in my 98 cobra pushing 500 RWP on motor for almost 4 years now. Didnt have any issues until I recently broke the cam chain on the drivers head. But no problems with the shortblock I purchased. Just some food for thought

If I bought a block lets say would I rather have the naturally aspirated block or the one for supercharged applications? On American muscle they are priced the same for the 4.6l 4v. We might not supercharge right now but wait a while after the car is running fine again. Would it affect it getting the supercharged one now and running it without a blower for a while?

Should only need to purchase the short block rotating assembly. Heads should still be fine. That should save some $$$. You can get a stock eaton from a terminator for pretty cheap too. Lower manifold and heat exchanger will be harder to find.

find a totaled, low mileage cobra, and pull the engine from that. Look for one that is totaled from the rear...

I been looking at prestige mustang. They have a few in at the moment. Might just do that instead.
