Good for you man. I'm not a fan of overpaying though. Mine works great. The Americanmuscle intake is also a "no name" part.

Aren't the ones stock on our cars plastic? At least has plastic components! Its been fine for 12 years. And yes, I read somewhere that plastic was more efficient than the metal cais.

"theoretically the plastic would be slightly better due to the increased temps of the engine bay.... but overall as stated above the air is in there for a limited amount of time. The ambient temperature would have a greater affect with regards to temperature.

So theoretically the system that would produce the most power would be plastic (insulated) in the engine bay and pulling cooler air from the fender. But in the real world CAI / RAI systems only give a small gain and the gain from following these theoretically optimal solutions rarely pans out to be a significant. I wouldn't spend tons of money trying to optimize the intake side from bolt ons, the biggest gains from bolt ons are on the exhaust side.

Best bang for the buck is a K&N drop in filter replacement and air"

Do you believe everything you read? Cause if so I have some horsepower stickers that WILL give you 5hp per sticker! And I'm selling them cheap! Pm me about them!

Theoretically and real world are two different things. In real world they both get to the same temps. But the metal cools and heats up quicker.

Even if the plastic keeps the air cooler than the metal, the K&N filter doesn't go into the wheel well. Seems like keeping it in the engine bay would take away what you gained from the plastic.
