I know I've read the answer to this question before but I've been searching page after page and I can't seem to find the original post...I've got '02 GT and sometimes it has trouble starting right away. Sometimes you've got to hold the key in the "start" position for a while or try it a second time...ring a bell?

That topic does sound familar. Try doing a search on "fuel pump." For 99-04 those are notorious for going out, and I believe that the key thing was a "hack" fix.

I had this problem in my 96 last year. Mine progressed into bad idle and not wanting to stay running until it warmed up. It was just the fuel filter.
