Thinking about buying my first MUSTANG!
Thinking about buying my first MUSTANG!
Ive been a member of this forum since 2004 when it first started. i was one of the first moderators until i joined the navy. I was rocking a 1994 Probe GT then it got totaled... very sad story... Currently i have a 2005 Focus ZX3, and now im about to buy my very own mustang gt. i cant wait. i wont be able to buy it till after the new year but it is time to start looking and getting a game plan going. SOOOOOO...
i decided on a SN-95 new edge. I cant wait to get it. i think time just slowed down since im going to get it soon. dont you hate when that happens...
well just thought id tell you guys!

Awesome! Welcome Back!.... New edge stags are getting pretty darn affordable.. just saw a 2003 7,000 mile GT vert go for 13,300
can't wait to see what ya decide on bro! Let us know what you have in mind and I know theres a few of us that dont mind telling ya the pros and cons and what to watch out for
Sweet! Good luck in the search!
I can't wait to see it in my drive way too. You know I saw a 2001 cobra for 10k. Wouldn't mind that either. Just curious... What are the pros and cons? I can think of a few, but I'm curious of what you guys have to say.
But I'm thinking a 1999-2004 gt. Don't want to spend more than 10k.

well for the99/01 cobras the pros are definitely DOHC power, IRS, great looking body, cobra brakes
although, if its a 99 (for future reference, I know the one you saw is an 01) you need to make sure it had the recall work done, otherwise it wont have the advertised 320hp. also the IRS in these cars isnt as strong as the units in the 03-04 cobras
other than that though, i cant think of a reason to not buy an 01 cobra. the fact that its "not as good as a terminator" really doesnt apply, considering the cost difference and the fact that it is still very much alot of car for the money

Cobra's are great. Ride and handling (IRS), power (32v DOHC 4.6L).. cant beat it.
The difference in 99/01 like Arin said, on an 99 make sure its had all teh TSB and recall work done, or it could be underpowered from the 320 it was advertised at.
01 cobra's, had better seats (99 had the same as GT's), 01's had the turn lights with amber signals, smoked headlights, and a few other cosmetic changes. otherwise they are same basically.

Just because of what Scothew said about seats, lights front and rear, and the recall stuff, I'd look for an 01 a lot harder than I'd look for a 99.
Congrats and keep us updated on the shopping/purchasing progress!
I hadn't really been to this part of the forums until a couple days ago. I've wanted a V-8 Stang for as long as I can remember, and I just bought a 96 Cobra. I will post pics and my opinion once I receive it. Should be here anytime in the next couple days...

The IRS is only "weak" if you plan on pushing a lot of power through it. If you are just planning on corner carving with the motor stock then you will be more than fine with the 99-01 IRS. The 03-04 were not that much stronger, and it is still the same design which was loosely stolen from the Thunderbird, which was absolutely never thought of as a trying-to-be-fast car. My opinion is that if you want a smooth ride go for IRS, if you want a suspension that was designed from the ground up to work in the car and to perform, that you should go for a GT with the quadralink (quadrabind) rear suspension, and throw in a Panhard bar and torque arm. A three link SRA will out-perform an IRS equipped car.
In summary: IRS is great for cruising. Built SRA is perfect for hitting apexes.
Just depends what you want to do with the car.
