For those that change their own oil:

I just did an oil change this past weekend on my 99 Mustang GT, and noticed today an oil spot on the floor in the garage. Looking under the 'stang, as far as I can tell its coming from around the drain bolt in the pan...oil spread up all around it and nowhere else. I dont recall seeing a gasket on the bolt when I did it, and I cant see one with it installed in the pan. On my Jeep, it is visible even when installed.

Am I missing the gasket on this bolt or is it 'hidden' when the bolt is in the pan? I guess it could have come off when I pulled the bolt out during the change.

Thanks...

changed the oil on my 02 GT today and no gasket. try putting a little extra arm power in it when you tighten the bolt.

Do not overtighten the drain plug bolt! I would check the threads of the pan and the bolt for signs of damage first. Then torque the bolt to 10 lb-ft.

Or better yet, Go get yourself a magnetic drain plug with an O-ring built into it. I never have these problems after switching to this type of drainplug.
