[FONT=Arial][SIZE=7]Hi folks. New on here, bought my 02 gt yesterday, sweet. Need some advice, how fast is this thing supposed to be?? Might be a stupid question I know but I had test drove a few cars and nothing made me grin quite as much as this does!!! The prrevious owner had done some mods, K&N intake, new fuel cover, subtle cosmetic things. Dealer told me that it might be chipped. What I want to know is how would I find if it was chipped and is the car supposed to try and snap my neck all the time. Is it normal to judder slightly in 1st gear under hard acceleration (traction control perhaps?). Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the site!

Describe the shudder in first. is it when shifting from 1st to 2nd? or just acceleration? Does it happen with Traction Control turned off?

Traction Control will not kick in unless it feels one or both of the tires slipping. A hard start with it off will prevent a burn out, and a hard shift while moving can make it seem like the engine is "dying" or "studdering" (it cuts power to the engine momentarily).

Hope that helps a little.

The 'shudder' isnt a shudder as such, its as if someones starting to learn to drive and they get the car jumping only nowhere near as bad. Fine shifting in all gears (serious pick up) and when driven normally shes smooth as silk, it might be a case of me being used to driving my ZX2 and need to get used to driving this instead. Seems almost like a small power drop followed by an atomic bomb.

My guess is the clutch, perhaps it's new. I know I still misjudge my engagment and that can cause a stutter or bog in first gear!

Welcome, and congrats on the purchase.

Just curious why the dealer told you it may have a chip?? Also, how many miles are on the car??

Well, you have kinda described what a Traction Control event will feel like, so that would be my first guess.

From the sound of what your describing sounds like TC is just doing it's job. I hope it drives better that your ZX2 little more ponies under the hood. Have fun and enjoy the stang.

Thanx for the replies folks. Dealer thought there may be a chip because he said it sure picked up better than most, and from the other same models same years I test drove it sure is a meaner machine. It has 40000 miles on it. Also the car has K&N, surely this cant make it the monster it is? Where would the chip be? Either way it stays!

No, a K&N wouldn't make much of a difference, despite what the merketing machine would have you believe.

I think the other thread you started in the V-8 subforum answers where it would be, but it would be in the pasenger side floor kick plate. Other thread has far more detailed of an answer.

The problem is a combination event. Was due partially to traction control and because the clutch was so much heavier than in the ZX2. Took some getting used to thats all. Now when i get in the other car i kick the clutch through the floor. However, when changing from 2nd to 3rd gear it takes a fraction to locate. Less of a problem at high revs. The best way to describe it is that it waits a while and then pops in. Any ideas??

Rochester, eh? can't do much winter driving their. kinda sucks that it is 30 below zero around here doesnt it? Stock gt wouldn't snap your neck, it must have some stuff done to it, if it has a chip in it, you'll see it the minute you look at the ECU
