New Brakes
I need some help I am looking into upgrading my brakes on my MUstang GT.
I looked at BBS Systems, Brembo, Baer and the cobra upgrade.
Would love to get some opions on this, thanks in advance for any feedback.

First off, what are you doing? If you going drag racing then you'll want something lightweight, but definately functional. If you are going Autocrossing or HPDE events then you'll need an upgrade.
I will list parts in order of progression (recommended steps):
Stainless Steel Brake Hoses
Ford Heavy Duty DOT3 Brake Fluid
Russell Speed Bleeders
Drag: (Stick with the GT Dual-Piston PBR's)
Hawk HPS+ Brake Pads
Brembo Blanks (rotors) for when your stock rotors give up
Autocrossing or HPDE
Cobra/Bullitt 13" Brake upgrade (you can piece this out from Ford)
Hawk HPS+ Brake Pads
Brembo Blanks, Stillen Slotted, or Baer Eradispeed Rotors (anything else is junk. I have warned you)
Junkyard Brake Ducts to cool the front brakes
Sidenote: All of this means nothing if you don't have a good set of tires or bleed your brakes regularly! Nothing like sliding into a retaining barrier because your tires stink!
Don't worry about the rear brakes because if you are over-driving them then you'll be well on your way to suspension upgrades.

Hope this helps!

I highly recommend the cobra brake upgrade like nathan posted. Its well worth the 400 bucks. For a daily driver with some spirited driving thrown in, you arent going to get better than that.

Its overpriced components that I just mentioned above. The only time you really pay for brakes is when you are buying Baer or Brembo "Big Brake" kits.
Can you just go to the Ford Service Department or local brake shop and say, please give me a Cobra upgrade? How much does that run?
Oh, and if you replace the disk with cross drilled disk, does it really do anything by itself?

(See my post above, there is a link to another site that sells the kit for cheaper)
As for the crossdrilled rotors, I do not recommend them for a street bound car due to the stress issues. They will crack and probably need to be replaced in about a year. Just not worth the cost.
Thanks for the info. The brakes in my car are horrible. My 96 Explorer Sport has better pedal and stopping ability. I had the brakes done on the Mustang before I left for Iceland (14 months ago) and it didn't help. We'll just need to upgrade I guess.
I did some reading today (old thread came in handy) and it seems the cobra upgrade is the best way to go if the results are that good. The other kits look like they cost 2 to 3 times more then the cobra upgrade. Scothew describes my driving style, daily commuter with some spirited driving also. I need to do something about my brakes, they stink.

New question, is it rice to paint calipers? I'm thinking a nice red to go with my car. I think it would look good on my car, any thoughts????
