The price ranges are about the same for a MAC CAI as the K&N FIPK. The K&N Intake says you can get about 10 HP from it. The K&N also seems really easy to install. What would be better to get. I am looking for better HP and both of these products are the same price. Has anyone had any experience with any of these products.

yeah i say go with MAC. it will brighten up the engine bay so much more than the K&N. and the power for both is probably about the same

I agree, I have the MAC and it does add some shine. If I can install it anyone can.

I personally dont like the MAC or the K&N. I am currently running the C&L trueflow inlet pipe with an open air filter on my stock Maf. Its been a great setup. The C&L Trueflow pipe is a thicker metal than the MAC and it acctually stays fairly cool. The Mac's thinner metal seems to absorb more heat and heats up really quick and stays hot.

If I were to use something else, i'd probably check out the Densecharger CAI system.

Here is a pic of the pipe I have, the GT pipe is the same as far as material and design, just shaped properly to fit the SOHC motor. I also hardly ever run with the heat sheild over the K&N filter. I have no noticed any performance different by doing this.

96-98 snakes are awesome! Gorgeous looking engine (if only we had the 99/01 coil pack covers). You get a live axle, tons of parts out available for them. They are great n/a, but really wake up under boost/nitrous (i know this for a fact). The only downfall I see to the 96-98's is in n/a, they make the power so high in the rpm range, you will get taken by alot of GT's and other better torque producing cars. They really shine on the top end about 5,000 rpm. A good set of gears (4.10's or higher) really wake the powerband up. 13,300 isnt a bad price for a car with that few miles. I'd try and get it closer to 12k personally though.

now that I look though, KBB.com list suggested retail on the car at $14,860, so $13,300 maybe a great price. Trade in is 10,500 though so i'd guess anywhere from 12k-13k should be good
