My check engine light goes on and remains on for a month or longer and then turns off for a few weeks only to turn on again. I went to the autoparts store and checked the code. The code is P020(something like that) which states a low catalyst efficiency, i.e., my bassanin X-pipe. I have MILs for almost 4 years and never had a SES light until recently. THe SES light is obviously going on because of the exhaust. Did my MILs go bad? How do I remedy this problem??Thanks.

Yes, your mil's could be the problem. I had two sets of MIL's fail on my 97 GT with Bassani Xpipe and cat back. Finally the CEL went out permanently ( been two + years now ) after a friend drove the heck out of the car on a trip. Before you check into new MIL's check your gas cap to see if it's on tightly and the seal is good. An improperly sealed gas cap will trigger the CEL. Oh, BTW, I have full state inspections done every two years including emmissions check, and the 97 GT has always passed inspection. A CEL will fail the car automatically so I had to disconnect the battery one year to make the CEL go out before I took the car to be inspected. Since the car passed the emissions inspection by a wide margin you have to wonder about the validity of the test and/or the need for such strict limits in the testing criteria.
