Inertial Cut-Off Switch
I would say anything 15mph or greater has a chance to do it. Maybe even less. Im curious whats spawning the question.
Well i was sitting at a cross walk letting some kids cross and the person behind me wasnt paying any attention and slamed into the back of me. It was in a school zone so hopefully they were doing less then 30 km/h. luckly the kids had finished crossing because my car jumped a full car length ahead.
I got a nice case of whiplash because my car bounced around so much. The insurance agency isnt paying up saying I wasnt hit hard enough to cause whiplash.
The fuel shutoff had cut in so i was just trying to figure out what the impact speed has to be before it does cut in because that would be useful information to use in my court case.
I guess i might have to talk to a service department tech and see if he knows what the numbers are exactly.
Thanks for the help though

Yeah the exact numbers will be determined by the manuf. and probably whatever agencies provide saftey approval for cars. You may be able to find it online on some of their sites.
Were the breaks applied on your car, were there skid marks?
Making a few assumptions I would think you could calculate the
forces involved, as well as the approximate speed of the car
that hit you.
Also, if you think you have wiplash, go to a doctor, I can't imagine
the insurance company being able to get away with saying that
you weren't hit hard enough to suffer wiplash. Everybody is different
and the force it takes for me to suffer wiplash may be different than
the force it takes you to suffer the same. So go to the doctor and
get any pains documented right away.
I'm going to guess there was damage to your car, and don't be suprised
if they total it, I almost lost mine because someone backed into the
drivers door.
