Induction Size

Is bigger always better when it comes to induction? I am looking at upgrading my throttle body to a 70 mm or 80mm but what about the Mass Air meter? I found a recommended 90mm one but shouldnt both parts match diameters?

Thanks

If this is for your Cobra you need to post in the appropriate section. I will move but will also leave a link for a day.

Well I wasnt sure where to post as there isnt a section for induction or performance like other forums. Its a general question about induction size really but yes its for my Cobra.

Hmm, well this isnt where I would think it goes but from no responses in this forum guess it would have been best left in General (although this site is very low in traffic )

Bigger isn't always best. Its time to upgrade parts when they become the restriction in the chain of airflow. Intake air may lose some of its velocity going in due to the bigger opening.

In the case of my Gt thats still NA, the stock 65mm TB flows enough air. A 70 or 75mm would only be worth a couple hp at best.

Thanks for the reply.

So basically its a waste of money unless you can utilize the extra airflow. But how do you know when to increase it and by how much?

You need to lay out your goals for your Cobra to identify not only the proper parts to achieve your goals but factor in a time table of when to purchase the parts at the proper time.

You can obtain all sorts of good information for your New Edge snake on svtperformance.com.

Yup, I joined both sites same day and yes they do have a great site too. Getting good replies there and all.

I probably wont put a supercharger on it but bigger injectors, TB, plenum, CAI (already have) and full exhaust system (Basanni). This is about as much as can be done to increase hp without a SC I guess other then the required dyno/tune. So with that I dont know what sizes I should get.

This would be a good book to get to learn from:

Lots of testing with dynosheets.

I don't think you will need injectors with the other items you have listed. You also forgot to include an intake spacer. I would say 1/4" to 3/8" would work well.

What tuner application will you be purchasing (if you don't already have one?) Have you selected a shop to perform the tune on the dyno? They also may have some insight.

If you don't want to go the SC route, you can also have your intake ported, add new heads/cams, etc. But these are expensive . . . but could also improve your engines performance N/A or SC.

does the Mach 1 have the dual bore TB like the cobras? single blade TB from accufab would be a good upgrade
