Hey guys,

I have been hitting dealers lately, and have found 2 cars that I am in twined with as I want and are in my price range!

One is a Black 2002 MustangGT for 15995$. However, it has almost 27K on it, so I think I can get it lower than that, and then with my car for 3K$ I will be looking at roughly 11.5$!! Ain't too bad at all...but I am pretty sure it is a Delux model, becuz it has no leather...but oh, well, I guess I could throw in some Mach seats later on?

The other is:

2003 MustangGT for 19992$. It only has roughly 7K on it, so this is much nicer for milegae purpose. It is black as well. I also believe this one has leather (I am going to look at it today) and has been sitting on this dealers lot (Toyota dealer) for about 2 months now advertissing for lower and lower prices each time I look at it! So this can be a good thing, I would think! I think I could prolly get them to around 18G's, and then with my trade in of 3G's....we are looking at 15G's. You can't beat that price on a 2003!?

Now my question is to you guys', which would you go for and why? Is 03 better than 02? what are some of the differences? HP? TQ? Interior? Exterior? What's up, I am so excited....please let me know, as I will have to make my mind up by tomarrow night!

The Bullitt wheels got a slightly darker finish in 2003 compared to the 2001-2002 models. I like the darker finish much better. A Bright Wheel option was also added in 2003, available only on Premium models. I can't think of any other changes to the GT.

So Brad, would you go for the cheaper one then? If they are pretty much the same, why not, right? Except for the miles?

I'd save the 25% and go with the '02.

I'd probably go 02 as well. You'd be saving 4K, which is a ton of money. You could take the savings (or payment savings if your financing) and invest it either into the car itself, or just save it.

I have another opinion as well. If they come WAY down on that other one and the numbers get close I'd do it. You can tell them basically you'll pay "x" no more, and walk out and go get your 02 they don't want to play.

The danger in that, is you getting excited and not knowing when to walkout and spending 4-5K more then you intended. be careful, but if your disciplined, you could try and see what kind of deal you could get on the 03. If it doesn't work out, no big deal -- the 02 is waiting.

With the 02, you can try and get them a bit lower as well. Run an Edmunds report on it to get an idea. Their TMV's aren't always right, but its a start.

How many miles do you think you'll put on it in one year? If you log a lot of miles (I put on 20,000 / yr) then play it sraight and go with the '02. Better deal. If you don't think you'll put on a lot of miles, then go with JeffreyDJ's idea and see what you can get. Play hardball with the '03. Good luck.

The '03's been on the lot for 2mos., they're probably ready to get rid of it because who's going to be looking on their lot for a Mustang. Offer them $17,000, if you want it, and tell them that's your best offer. If they don't take it walk away and see what they do. Personally, I wouldn't give any more than that. If you know anyone that goes to the auctions that would be another choice for you.

I personally would go for the 2003 but you might want to wait because there are going to be tons of 2003 coming to the used lots as soon as the 2005 is coming out. You should be able to get even better deals then. $19,999 is not bad but I just got a premium GT for only $21,999 brand new. So, I am sure that you should be able to get it down to $17,500 or just wait if they won't give you a better price.

I just would go with the low milage car and I love the leather interior.

Thanx for the help guys, however, I ran by the 03 real quick from work, and they are both the delux's. No leather on the 03 and the std rims were on it too.

So why are they asking so much for it? They should be able to deal on this one, I will hit the 02 first, as I could get real low on this, and then walk over to the 03, and tell them what I could get with 02 and see if they can do a better job...worth a shot, but we will see, huh?

Sounds like a plan to me. And yeah, not sure why the 03 would be so high, except maybe they gave too much on trade-in for it. You might be able to get them lower knowing its a deluxe. The extra 20K+ of warranty left would be nice.

I've seen USED 03 Mach 1's for 24K, and new ones for 25.8K. Dealers ALWAYS over-charge on used cars.

Well to update you guys'. The Ford dealer with the 15995$ price tag was sold when I got there, guess I should have went there first huh? And the 03 that was about 20000$, they wouldn't budge one bit. Said that the car was worth 22,000$...BS. There's no way that an 03 is worth that, but they had dealer prices on everything!!!!

It was hideous. They put a net in the trunck and added 100$, added 'newer' floor mats and added 100$, then the windows were tinted at the dealer (they did it on their own) and decided to charge 175$ for that.

I told them good by...and walked off, was there for about 20 mins. What idiots, they will never sell that car for the price!

You could get a brand new 2004 GT with the same options for less with the rebates they have now.

Brad...I know, that's why I walked out. From doing all the research and talking with you guys', there was no way I was gonna fall for that. The only thing is...darn, the insurance is gonna be hella high on a 2004, about 419$ month. Wayyyyyy too much!

And Goat...thanx, I know, I will keep looking around, maybe my idea to wait until Sept. is the thing to do, maybe just maybe?! I don't know anymore, I am just tired of my T-Bird!

Like I said before, the longer you wait the happier you'll be with your deal.

You could jump on the first deal, it's possible you'll miss 5 deals after that. However at a certain point, you can only do SO much research so be content with your final decision.

Just run the options over and over and over in your head. You have a great start knowing that you want a GT(not Mach 1) and a pre 2005 model. Also you have your price range, great, just wait until those big ballas start dropping their old 02,03,04's when the 05's come out.

I'm starting to change my mind......I'm thinking of getting an low mile 04 GT next year......be satisfied.....then in 06-07+ jump to the newer fastback-like Stangs. Rather than waiting FOREVER to get a 05 or 06. I can't afford 28K right now, but 15-19K will be within my range by the time I wanna slap down some cash.

Just keep your standards high, eyes open, and keep your options open to different solutions.

Mestizo....you are so right. That's most likely my ideal situation, however, as you can see though (in my profile to the side) my car has broken down 3 times in the last week.

All 3 times have been check engine light, which have cost me about 1000$, and now it is on again tonight?! WTF?

So I don't wanna spend too much more money on this car, so that's why I am looking now...
