High Intensity Discharge.

Some people also refer to them as Xenons, after the inert gas used in the bulb.

They are popular, becuase they produce a brighter and whiter light. An 18W HID bulb produces the same amount of light as a 55W Halogen one. Also, the light produced is closer that of sunlight than incandescent or Halogen bulbs.

Ah, Xenons, I know what they are. I do not think they are at all ricey. Very annoying when someone is behind you with them though. Everytime the hit a bump the light colour changes from white to blue....

As for the lights, it's no big deal to change the lights to a brighter light. Also decide if you want to go with just bulbs, bulbs and new clear lights, of a real hid kit (which will run you about 500.00) which is availible from a site that sends you a plug and play kit. i have a 96 gt and i have clear lights with xenon bulbs and it doesn't look ricey. but i don't go around claiming to have hid lights either.

IMO definitely not ricey.

You may want to take caution in buying a true HID conversion kit. The majority of kits (most popular is Philips) use an external ballast and new wiring harness for your xenon bulbs. With this new kit your lights are 2-3 times brighter than the factory originally intended. The stock headlamp housing is not designed to direct the more intense beam, therefore creating a widespread beam similar to when you have your brights on. This could lead to you unintentionally blinding other drivers or worse off being issued a ticket to remove the product all together. Most new vehicles with HID have a housing that cuts off the beam at a specific height so that it does not shine in to the oncoming drivers eyes. The newest BMW cars even have a self leveling system that directs the light slightly downward when you are driving up a steep hill.

I wouldn't blame you for go the HID route. Stock lights on my car are not very good IMO.

thanks for the imput from what i have read i will lose my highbeams because the bulb is a dual filament bulb. also i can't seem to find a kit that will convert the fog lights as well. don't want to have mismatched lights.

yeah, the BMW set up is nice. but for the price of the car it should be. im sure someone makes a complete kit with new housings for the mustang. might have to check one of the pro ricer sites though. something like APC. and safety isnt ricer. and super huge spiolers and fake hood pins arent safety features
