Help with 1999 GT 120k miles
I was wondering how higher milage mustangs are holding up and at 120k miles what needs to be done to them?
I saw one I like for a good price in town and would like to get it as a new DD.
Clean title, says it was smogged. Looks clean, just some wear on the leather seats but no cracks. Anything I should worry about or look for?
Thanks in advance!

It all depends on how the car has been taken care of. I heard about em running for 2mil+ no problems at all. I've also heard of people having problems too. If you think its been taken car of I think you'll be good man

My v6 had 168k on it before the swap. Nothing was wrong with the engine, so I sold it to continue it's life in a 98. My car currently has 173k on it. I think my transmission and my carpet are the only things original
I have gone through 2 head gaskets (recall & driver abuse) I have replaced one odometer gear (thankfully I kept track of my miles and adjusted it) I also had to replace 4 window motors (2 were used) I've also had to replace a door ajar sensor and later on an ignition sensor (things that I technically could live with)
Now take into account that in addition to mileage my car is 17yo. But yeah, as mentioned, it depends on how it's taken care of. You can get an old gem or a new lemon. If they can provide service records, you know they've at least done the bare minimum to take care of it.

I've had a 2kgt since new and developed a rod knock around 60k miles. I am about to start a thread about a rebuild. I believe it was a little low on oil and my son may have driven like a normal teenager when this happened. Its been his car for a couple of years.
I think these 4.6 will last if taken care of for at leat 200k I have seen a few. Make sure the engine is cold when you look at it and start it up with the hood open so you can hear things a little better. Test drive it for as long as you can with all options going.

Help with 1999 GT 120k miles
Hello Five0h,
I would expect this engine to go 250k with regular maint. I had a 94 Tbird with the 4.6 liter and it went over 350k as a DD from San Jose to Modesto every day pushing 105 mph on the 5 & 580 whenever possible. As you know it’s often over 100 Deg F in the central valley. It finally failed to smog due to too much blow (rings) by. It was always fast.
I would have it scanned for codes with a real (Ford Enhanced enabled) scanner, O2 sensor outputs and compression if possible by a real mechanic. Look at the colors of all fluids. If all is good buy it.
I would do a baseline PM for 100K miles. That is, Change the oil & filter, transmission fluid and filter, fuel filter, air filter, plugs and COP boots, P/S fluid flush, coolant flush, rear end lube, new brake fluid, inspect the rotors and brake pads and finally consider a set of good shocks/struts. Unless is can see the stack of service receipts then everybody is fibbing. 100K is the service point for major PM's. If you are handy, then it’s just your time.
I think you will have great car you can take anywhere at any time and know your not "that guy" on the side of the road.
